As the United States celebrates Thanksgiving over the next several days, there’s great live music being made around the world from Sam Amidon, Devendra Banhart, Daughter of Swords, Rhiannon Giddens, Tigran Hamasyan, Mandy Patinkin, Joshua Redman, and Yola.

---

Sam Amidon begins a nine-date US tour at The Parlour Room in Northampton, Massachusetts, on Saturday, and SPACE in Portland, Maine, on Sunday. Amidon’s Fatal Flower Garden EP (A Tribute to Harry Smith), released earlier this month on Nonesuch, features his take on four songs from Anthology of American Folk Music, Smith’s beloved and influential 1920s and ’30s folk music recordings.

---

Devendra Banhart begins the second leg of his North American Ma tour at Museum of Contemporary Art in Detroit on Saturday and Danforth Music Hall in Toronto on Sunday. “Banhart's singular world remains as intoxicating as ever on the earthly, analogue-sounding Ma,” says Q in its four-star review. “It feels as if all of human life is here.”

---

Daughter of SwordsMountain Man's Alexandra Sauser-Monnig—performs music from her Nonesuch debut album, Dawnbreaker, with the Dawnbreaker Band at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, North Carolina, on Saturday. She hits the road with Joan Shelley next week for a five-city run in the Midwest.

Dawnbreaker, released earlier this year, is a “tender, fragile, jewel of a record,” says NPR Music. Pitchfork writes that the album reveals Sauser-Monnig’s “effortless skill as a songwriter as she delivers an homage to the betwixt and between of a relationship in its twilight.”

---

Rhiannon Giddens and multi-instrumentalist Francesco Turrisi continue their UK tour in support of her new album, there is no Other, with shows at Opera House in Buxton tonight, Grand Central in Liverpool, on Thursday, The Sage in Gateshead on Friday, and Usher Hall in Edinburgh on Sunday.

there is no Other has earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best American Roots Performance for the song “I'm on My Way.” The album has been included in Uncut’s list of the Best New Releases of 2019.

---

Pianist Tigran Hamasyan gives solo recitals at Victoria Hall in Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday, and De Roma in Borgerhout, Belgium, on Saturday. NPR writes: “As a pianist and composer, [Hamasyan] draws inspiration from jazz, folkloric and classical sources, in ways that feel both hypermodern and practically ageless.”

---

Mandy Patinkin, accompanied by pianist Adam Ben David, performs music from his new album, Children and Art, and more at National Theatre in Washington, DC, on Friday.

“I love these songs. They are songs that talk to me right now, at this moment," Patinkin told CBC’s Q in a recent interview. “Whether it's funny, sad, meaningful, connective, they're all like little remembrances or prayers to me, or recollections ... But I guess more than anything, they're about finding the light for me.” You can watch the conversation here.

---

The Joshua Redman Quartet—pianist Aaron Goldberg, bassist Reuben Rogers, and drummer Gregory Hutchinson—plays music from Come What May, its first album in nearly two decades, at Polana Serena Hotel in Maputo, Mozambique, on Thursday, for Acacia Jazz Festival. Come What May has been nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album.

---

Yola tours Europe and the UK in support of her Grammy-nominated debut album, Walk Through Fire, with concerts at Café de la Danse in Paris on Thursday, Oran Mor in Glasgow on Saturday, and Olympia Theatre in Dublin on Sunday.

Yola has also been nominated for four Grammy Awards: Best New Artist, Best Americana Album for Walk Through Fire, and Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song for the album track "Faraway Look." She has also been nominated for two UK Americana Awards: UK Artist of the Year and UK Album of the Year.
