Mary Halvorson makes her Blue Note Tokyo debut in two nights with her Amaryllis sextet on Sunday and Monday. Halvorson has been named DownBeat Artist and Guitarist of the year, and Amaryllis Group of the Year. Their latest album, About Ghosts, "conjures such vibrant, picturesque riffs, capricious melodic excursions, and suspenseful rhythmic undertows," DownBeat says in its four-star review, "a marvelous document for Halvorson’s compositional acumen and conceptual ingenuity." Halvorson's latest release, Slo-Mo Neon Luminate Hoverings, is a duo album with label mate and DownBeat Trumpeter of the Year, Ambrose Akinmusire.
