Thomas Adès conducts National Youth Orchestra in his Dante: Purgatorio at Royal Albert Hall in London on Saturday for BBC Proms. Also on the program are Liszt’s Mephisto Waltz No. 1 and Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique. Also for the Proms, Gustavo Dudamel leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a performance of Inferno from Adès's Dante at Royal Albert Hall this Tuesday. All BBC Proms are broadcast on BBC Radio 3. Dudamel and the LA Phil won a GRAMMY Award for Best Orchestral Performance for the 2023 Nonesuch Recording of the complete piece. “There is not a second in its 88 minutes that doesn’t delight," exclaimed the Los Angeles Times. "All of it is unexpected and wanted.”
Elsewhere at the Proms, Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians is given an immersive performance by Paraorchestra at Bristol Beacon tonight in celebration of the composer's 90th birthday year and the 50th anniversary year of the piece's premiere. In this concert, the players are distributed on plinths across Beacon Hall, breaking the barrier between audience and performers.

Singer Anthony Roth Costanzo continues his sold-out run at The Amph at Little Island in New York City through Sunday. He is joined for the program, Minimalism, by pianists Vicky Chow and Bryan Wagorn plus PUBLIQuartet tonight and mezzo soprano Rachael Wilson Saturday and Sunday. Costanzo makes his Nonesuch debut with the release of Countertenor, a wide-ranging survey of falsetto, in October, when he also releases a book of the same name on Farrar, Straus & Giroux. Composer Donnacha Dennehy's GRAMMY-winning Land of Winter is performed by Crash Ensemble, of which he is a co-founder, at St. Canice's Cathedral in Kilkenny, Ireland, tonight as part of the Kilkenny Arts Festival. The piece explores the subtleties of Ireland’s seasons via twelve connected sections representing the months of the year. Alarm Will Sound's premiere recording, released on Nonesuch in 2024, won the GRAMMY Award for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble. Dennehy's new album, Limina, out this month, features premiere recordings of two pieces: the piano concerto Limina and Violin Concerto, performed by National Symphony Orchestra Ireland, conductor Ryan McAdams, pianist Eliza McCarthy, and violinist Stephen Waarts; you can hear excerpts from both pieces here.
