Laurie Anderson and Sam Amidon join DM Stith, Martha Wainwright, and other performers celebrating the music of Arthur Russell in the sold-out Arthur Russell: The Platform on the Ocean, curated by Thomas Bartlett, at the Little Island Amphitheater on Sunday. The program embraces the breadth of Russell’s work, from art-pop to folk to disco. Amidon returns to Little Island at the end of the month to lead a free participatory singalong of shape note singing in The Play Ground on Sunday, August 31.

Pianist Jeremy Denk closes out his week at the Aspen Music Festival, where he has been giving master classes and lectures, in a concert with the Aspen Chamber Symphony, conducted by Jane Glover, at the Aspen Meadows Resort’s Klein Music Tent tonight. The program includes works by Anna Clyne and Schubert.

Bass-baritone Davóne Tines is also at the festival, performing works by Bach, Caroline Shaw, Handel, and more with pianist John Bitoy at the resort’s Harris Concert Hall on Saturday.

Pianist Richard Goode joins the Bowdoin International Music Festival Orchestra, conducted by Peter Bay, at Crooker Theater in Brunswick, Maine, tonight. The program includes Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 25 in C Major, K.503, which Goode recorded for Nonesuch in 1998, along with works by Ernst von Dohnányi and Paquito D'Rivera.

Guitarist/composer Mary Halvorson and her trio Thumbscrew—bassist Michael Formanek and drummer and vibraphone player Tomas Fujiwara—perform at Gulbenkian Garden in Lisbon, on Saturday. Halvorson was once again named Guitarist of the Year in the DownBeat Critics Poll, and her sextet, Amaryllis—Fujiwara, Patricia Brennan (vibraphone), Nick Dunston (bass), Jacob Garchik (trombone), and Adam O’Farrill (trumpet)—has been named Group of the Year. Their new album, About Ghosts, released earlier this year, "conjures such vibrant, picturesque riffs, capricious melodic excursions, and suspenseful rhythmic undertows," DownBeat says in its four-star review, "a marvelous document for Halvorson’s compositional acumen and conceptual ingenuity.

Kronos Quartet is at the University of Cincinnati’s Corbett Center for the Performing Arts in Ohio for Summermusik this weekend. On Saturday, they perform a program at the Corbett Theater that includes the world premiere of a piece by Matt Browne along with works by Terry Riley, Beethoven, and Jungyoon Wie. Following the CCM Prep Students recital at Corbett Auditorium on Sunday, Kronos will take the stage to join the Summermusik string quartet for Visions for the Future, performing works by Rhiannon Giddens, Philip Glass, and more.

Guitarist/composer Jeff Parker performs a sold-out show at Out There in Sawyer, Michigan, on Sunday. The Way Out of Easy, Parker’s new album with his ETA IVtet—saxophonist Josh Johnson, bassist Anna Butterss, drummer Jay Bellerose—was released to critical acclaim last year. You can watch their recent NPR Tiny Desk Concert here. Parker and his Tortoise bandmates’ Oganesson Remixes was released earlier this year, and the vinyl is due September 5.

Cécile McLorin Salvant and pianist Glenn Zaleski perform on the Johnny Lytle Stage at Commons Park Plaza in Springfield, Ohio, for the Springfield Jazz & Blues Festival. Salvant released her new single “What does blue mean to you?,” the second off her upcoming album, Oh Snap, yesterday; you can hear it here. Last week, Salvant shared a live performance video of the title track to the album, performed with Sullivan Fortner at the piano; you can watch it here.

Molly Tuttle tours the US Mountain States this weekend, performing at Canyons Village in Park City tonight, in support of Lukas Nelson; Knitting Factory in Boise on Saturday; and at Grand Targhee Resort in Wyoming on Sunday for the Grand Targhee Bluegrass Festival. Tuttle released her new single “Old Me (New Wig)”, the third off her upcoming album, So Long Little Miss Sunshine, last week; you can hear it here.

Guitarist/composer Yasmin Williams returns to Canada for a weekend in Edmonton's Gallagher Park for the Edmonton Folk Festival. She is part of a multi-artist session title Once Upon a Time on Stage 6 on Saturday at 12:40pm and leads a master class on Stage 2 later that afternoon at 3pm. Her weekend culminates in a solo performance on Stage 7 on Sunday evening.

    Punch Brothers—mandolinist Chris Thile, guitarist Chris Eldridge, bassist Paul Kowert, banjoist Noam Pikelny, and violinist Brittany Haas—begin a sixty-four city North American tour on May 14, performing through the spring, summer, and fall in celebration of their new album, The Unsung Adventures of Punch Brothers, due July 24 on Nonesuch Records. They will make stops throughout the East Coast, South, Midwest, Rockies, Southwest, West Coast and Canada, with headlining shows at venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, NY and the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN; and performances at festivals including Newport Folk Festival, Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and Spoleto Festival, among others. It is the band’s most extensive tour since 2019.
