Emmylou Harris performs on the Grand Ole Opry broadcast live from Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium tonight and Saturday, with two sets each night. Harris, an Opry member since 1992, is joined by fellow members Connie Smith, Mike Snider, Riders in the Sky, and The Whites, as well as special guests Toby Keith, The Secret Sisters, and more. Folks around the world can tune in on 650 AM WSM via opry.com.

The first-ever vinyl edition of Emmylou Harris and the Nash Ramblers' Grammy Award–winning album At the Ryman was released on Nonesuch Records in 2017 for the album’s 25th anniversary. Recorded live over three nights at the historic Nashville venue, the album features the legendary singer and her acoustic backing band performing songs by Bill Monroe, Bruce Springsteen, Steve Earle, Stephen Foster, Nanci Griffith, and others. The New York Times declared at the time: “This record is her finest moment.” This first vinyl edition was re-mastered and pressed on 140-gram double vinyl.

Gabriel Kahane concludes the latest leg of his Book of Travelers tour this weekend, playing Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffalo tonight and Burdock Music Hall in Toronto on Saturday. NPR has named album track “November” one of the Best Songs of 2018. Kahane’s tour resumes in late January.

---

Kronos Quartet live-scores a screening of filmmaker Sam Green’s A Thousand Thoughts: A Live Documentary at The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles tonight. The multimedia experience blends live music and narration with archival footage and filmed interviews with some of the artists with whom Kronos has collaborated, like Philip Glass, Tanya Tagaq, Steve Reich, Wu Man, and Terry Riley.

Landfall, the quartet’s album with Laurie Anderson, released earlier this year on Nonesuch, has been named one of the Best New Releases of 2018 by Uncut.

---

Natalie Merchant is at the Beacon Theatre in New York City on Saturday, joining Cyndi Lauper, Regina Spektor, Robert Glasper, and more for the eighth annual Cyndi Lauper & Friends: Home for the Holidays benefit concert. All proceeds from the event will support the True Colors Fund, which works to end homelessness among LGBTQ youth.

---

Gaby Moreno is close to home in Southern California this weekend, with shows at Largo at the Coronet in Los Angeles tonight and Pappy & Harriet’s in Pioneertown on Saturday.

Moreno and Van Dyke Parks' heartfelt interpretation of David Rudder's song “The Immigrants,” released earlier this year to benefit CARECEN and its efforts to empower immigrants, was just named one of the Best Songs of 2018 by the New York Times.

---

Chris Thile hosts his public radio show Live From Here at The Town Hall in New York City on Saturday, with special guests Maggie Rogers, Vulfpeck, Sarah Jarosz, fellow Punch Brother Noam Pikelny, and comedian Chris Gethard. Folks in the US can tune in on their favorite public radio station this weekend, and fans here and around the world can watch live online at livefromhere.org starting at 5:45 PM ET.

“This is a particularly magical slice of America during the holidays—not just America but also the world,” Thile tells Billboard. “There are so many people here and our show runs on people. The idea that if we can gather together on early Saturday evening … there’s an almost religious aspect of the thing. No matter how secularly you experience the holidays, I think there is this heightened awareness of something bigger than yourself. Nowhere is that more true than New York City.”
