Rhiannon Giddens is performing at two festivals in upstate New York: Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival at the Trumansburg Fairgrounds in Trumansburg tonight and Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival on the Walsh Farm in Oak Hill on Saturday. She then heads to play at The Hopkins Center for the Arts at Dartmouth University in New Hampshire on Sunday. Giddens has just won the DownBeat Critics Poll for Beyond Artist. Her new album, Hope Is the Thing with Feathers, is due on September 18. Inspired by the beauty of people coming together, it was intentionally recorded live with no frills and few overdubs. The album track “Carolina Rain” is out now; you can hear it and watch the video here.
