Composer John Adams’s music can be heard throughout the Ojai Music Festival in Ojai, California, this weekend. Following last night’s world premiere of selections from his Visions Fugitives in Ojai’s Libbey Bowl, pianist John Novacek and violinist Leila Josefowiscz perform his 1995 piece Road Movies there on Saturday morning. Both artists perform the piece on its premiere recording released on Nonesuch in 2004. That night, Adams’s Chamber Symphony is performed by the LA Phil New Music Group and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen, this year’s festival music director. Finally, Adams’s new work Iron Jig gets its world premiere in the Libbey Bowl in a performance by Attacca Quartet on Sunday morning. John Adams was the Ojai Music Festival’s music director in 1993 and again in 2021. Chris Thile has been announced as next year’s music director.

Steve Reich’s 1987 orchestral work The Four Sections is being given a free, family-friendly performance by Paraorchestra at Lincoln Center's Geffen Hall in New York City on Saturday afternoon as part of Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City series. The program, The Anatomy of an Orchestra, part installation, part concert, Paraorchestra and conductor Charles Hazlewood give the audience a chance to climb inside and get up close to the orchestra as it performs Reich’s iconic piece. In this show, 51 musicians are spread out across the Wu Tsai Theatre, both on stage and throughout the auditorium. The audience is invited to move amongst each of the four sections of the orchestra and explore its inner workings. The first recording of The Four Sections, which the New York Times called “Reich’s most assured work of the decade,” featuring the London Symphony Orchestra and conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, had its 35th anniversary earlier this year.

Cécile McLorin Salvant is in Massachusetts this weekend for two concerts with pianist Glenn Zelski: at Groton Hill Music Center in Groton on Saturday and at Payomet Performing Arts Center in North Truro on Sunday. Salvant’s debut orchestral album, With Every Breath I Take, is out at the end fo the month.

Chris Thile performs at the Attucks Theatre in Norfolk, Virginia, tonight as part of the Virginia Arts Festival. The set includes selections from his solo recordings of Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas, the second volume of which was released on Nonesuch in November. Thile resumes his tour with Punch Brothers at Telluride Bluegrass Festival next weekend; their new instrumental album, The Unsung Adventures of Punch Brothers, is due July 24.

Yasmin Williams kicked off a two-week West Coast tour as special guest of the Crane Wives last night in California, where they play three more shows this weekend: at the Fremont Theater in San Luis Obispo tonight, the Castro Theatre in San Francisco on Saturday, and Ace of Spades in Sacramento on Sunday. Williams, who made her Nonesuch debut with the release of her album Acadia in 2024, won the International Folk Music Awards' Rising Tide Award.
