Happy summer solstice! Yasmin Williams and Timo Andes celebrate with free outdoor shows in NYC: both on Little Island, plus Williams at Lincoln Center too. Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti and Frank Rosaly bring MESTIZX to Canada. Rhiannon Giddens and Justin Robinson perform in Berkeley. Happy summer solstice! Guitarist Yasmin Williams celebrates with two free outdoor shows in New York City: in The Glade on Little Island late Saturday night, part of a series curated by Amy Sherald, and in Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park on Sunday evening for the “I Am the Band” celebrating the women behind music’s biggest successes from the ‘80s through today hosted by NPR’s Ann Powers. The featured singers for the multi-artist event, part of Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City programming, are Allison Russell, Bridget Everett, Joan Osborne, Lisa Fischer, and Lucius. You can hear Yasmin Williams’s recent performance on NPR’s Mountain Stage here

Back in the Glade on Little Island, Timo Andres gives a solo recital there Little Island on Sunday night. He is the second guest of the Cécile McLorin Salvant–curated series of free concerts on Little Island, which had its opening performance on Thursday and continues in The Glade through July 26.

Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti and Frank Rosaly bring their collaborative project, MESTIZX, to Canada this weekend for two shows in Ontario, at Tranzac in Toronto and St. Cuthburt’s in Hamilton for the Something Else Festival on Saturday, followed by a night at Casa del Popolo in Montreal on Sunday.

Rhiannon Giddens & The Old-Time Revue—featuring Justin Robinson and four other string musicians—conclude their week in California in support of Giddens and Robinson’s new album, What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow, with a performance in Zellerbach Hall at the University of California, Berkeley, on Saturday. The tour moves to Seattle on Monday before heading back east for sets at Summerstage in New York City and the Montreal Jazz Festival. Hurray for the Riff Raff (aka Alynda Segarra) kicks off their summer tour with a set at Red Wings Roots Festival in Mount Solon, Virginia’s Natural Chimneys Park today, before heading north to New York state to join Waxahatchee for a sold-out concert at Beak & Skiff in Lafayette on Saturday and at the sold-out Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock on Sunday. Pianist Brad Mehldau and his trio—bassist Felix Moseholm and drummer Jorge Rossy—perform at Saffron Hall in Saffron Waldon, England, on Sunday. His new album, Ride into the Sun—a songbook record of music by the late singer, songwriter, and guitarist Elliott Smith—is due August 29. Moseholm performs on the album, as do singer/guitarist Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear, singer/mandolinist Chris Thile, bassist John Davis, drummer Matt Chamberlain, and a chamber orchestra led by Dan Coleman. You can pre-order the album here and watch performance videos of two album tracks, “Tomorrow Tomorrow” and “Better Be Quiet Now,” and a behind the scenes video about the making of the album here.

In keeping with an annual summer solstice tradition, Chris Thile, following a solo set yesterday, joins his fellow Punch Brothers—fiddler Brittany Haas, banjoist Noam Pikelny, guitarist Chris Eldridge, and bassist Paul Kowert—on the main stage at Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Telluride, Colorado, this afternoon and at Sheridan Opera House Sunday evening for a sold-out show for NightGrass, the late-night component of the festival. The band’s second album, Antifogmatic, had its fifteenth anniversary last weekend.

Molly Tuttle and her new band are at the Mountain Jam festival at Belleayre Mountain in Highmount, New York, Sunday afternoon. Tuttle is fresh off the release of her single “That’s Gonna Leave a Mark,” the video for which you can watch here, and the announcement of her album, “So Long Little Miss Sunshine,” due August 15 and available to pre-order here. Mountain Jam is one of many festivals that Tuttle will perform at this summer, before launching her The Highway Knows tour in the fall.

    Laurie Anderson with Sexmob's Let X=X is due May 8, 2026, on Nonesuch Records. This triple-LP / double-CD set was recorded live during a 2023 tour by Anderson and the jazz band Sexmob—Steven Bernstein on brass, Kenny Wollesen on drums and percussion, Douglas Wieselman on winds and guitar, Briggan Krauss on saxophone and guitar, and Tony Scherr on bass. The album features 23 songs, including many favorites from throughout Anderson’s career, performed in new arrangements—plus one by Lou Reed and Metallica, “Junior Dad.” Nonesuch Store orders include an exclusive print autographed by Laurie Anderson, while they last. The title track, from Anderson’s landmark 1982 album, Big Science, along with a visualizer, can be seen and heard here. Anderson and Sexmob play more US and international dates this spring and summer.
