Sō Percussion continues its BAM Fisher residency in Brooklyn with Caroline Shaw and Ringdown. Ambrose Akinmusire joins Alonzo King LINES Ballet in San Francisco. Jeremy Denk is in Düsseldorf. Rhiannon Giddens and Justin Robinson take The Old-Time Revue to Chicago and DC. Gabriel Kahane hosts an evening with Oregon Symphony members in Portland. Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride, and Marcus Gilmore tour Tokyo. Mandy Patinkin is in Kalamazoo. Chris Thile joins Asheville Symphony Orchestra.

Sō Percussion kicked off its eight-night residency at BAM Fisher in Brooklyn earlier this week. The first program, Who Turns Out the Light, featuring Caroline Shaw and Ringdown, her duo with Danni Lee Parpan, continues tonight and Saturday with music from their GRAMMY-winning new album together, Rectangles and Circumstance, and the previous Shaw and Sō collaboration, Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part. Sō can also be heard on the debut album from Ringdown released today, Lady on the Bike, performing a new version of Ringdown’s song “Ghost.” Next week, Sō Percussion will be joined by This Is the Kit and Helado Negro for the second half of its BAM residency.

Composer and trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire performs live in a world premiere collaboration with Alonzo King LINES Ballet at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco on Saturday and Sunday, with performances continuing through next weekend. Akinmusire has just won the JJA Jazz Award for Trumpeter of the Year for the second year in a row.

Pianist Jeremy Denk is at Klavier Festival Ruhr performing at the Robert-Schumann-Saal im Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf, Germany, on Sunday. The program features music by women composers from Clara Schumann to Meredith Monk, alongside pieces by Brahms and Robert Schumann, whose work he performs on his 2019 album, c. 1300–c. 2000.

Rhiannon Giddens & The Old-Time Revue, featuring Justin Robinson and four other string musicians, continue their tour in support of Giddens and Robinson’s new album, What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow, with shows at Thalia Hall in Chicago tonight and The Anthem in Washington, DC, on Sunday. You can watch performance videos of eight tunes from the new album here.

Gabriel Kahane hosts an evening of music and conversation with composer Katherine Balch and musicians from the Oregon Symphony at the Alberta Rose Theatre in Portland tonight. The program includes music by Balch, Bach, Caroline Shaw, and more. Kahane also makes a cameo, singing music by Balch and Schumann.

Pianist Brad Mehldau, bassist Christian McBride, and drummer Marcus Gilmore kicked off their Asian tour in Hong Kong on Tuesday and continue in Tokyo this weekend with shows at Kioi Hall tonight and Saturday, and at Suntory Hall on Sunday.

Mandy Patinkin concludes his Being Alive tour—a collection of his favorite Broadway and classic American tunes from the likes of Irving Berlin, Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, Harry Chapin, and more—with pianist Adam-Ben David, at the Miller Auditorium in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on Saturday.

Chris Thile joins the Asheville Symphony Orchestra and conductor Darko Butorac to perform his piece ATTENTION! (a narrative song cycle for extroverted mandolinist and orchestra) at Harrah's Cherokee Center’s Thomas Wolfe Auditorium in Asheville, North Carolina, on Saturday.
