Rhiannon Giddens will star as Bess in Greensboro Opera's production of The Gershwins' Porgy & Bess in 2020. The performances will take place at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts in her hometown of Greensboro, NC, on November 13 and 15, 2020, the company's inaugural season in the new venue. Giddens was in Greensboro last weekend as the guest curator of and a performer at the North Carolina Folk Festival. She performs in upstate New York this week and at the FreshGrass Festival at MASS MoCA this weekend.

Rhiannon Giddens will star as Bess in Greensboro Opera's production of The Gershwins' Porgy & Bess in 2020. The performances will take place at the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts in her hometown of Greensboro, North Carolina, on November 13 and 15, 2020, the company's inaugural season in the new venue. From today through November 11, Greensboro Opera is accepting deposits to enable patrons to be "first in line" to purchase tickets, before tickets go on sale to the public on November 16, 2018. Giddens was in Greensboro over the weekend as the guest curator of and a performer at the North Carolina Folk Festival. The program included a performance and discussion with public school students; an evening of jazz, spoken word, and tap dance; a symposium and workshop on banjo traditions; a performance on the roots of American dance; a concert by Giddens featuring songs from her Nonesuch solo albums Freedom Highway and Tomorrow Is My Turn; and more.

Giddens performs two shows at the Town Crier Cafe in Beacon, New York, on Wednesday and Thursday; at the FreshGrass Festival at MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, this weekend; and at the Wide Open Bluegrass Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina, on September 28.     The Black Keys have secured the No. 1 Current Rock Album and No. 1 Current Alternative Album in US sales following the release of their new album, Ohio Players, last week. The album also is the highest debut of the week on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums Chart and Top Alternative Albums Chart, at No. 5 on both charts, and has reached No. 4 on Overall Current Album sales and No. 26 on the Billboard 200. Internationally, Ohio Players is the band’s sixth consecutive top 20 album in the UK, as well as top 20 in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand, and Switzerland, among others.
