Rostam Releases New Song, "In a River," First Since Release of Debut Album, "Half-Light"

Rostam has released a new song, "In a River," his first new song since his debut album, Half-Light, was released on Nonesuch Records last year. You can listen to the song now on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon, and watch the video, which was directed by Rostam and animated by Jon Race, below.

"I often want the songs I produce to be meeting places for organic and electronic sounds—old traditions and new ones," Rostam says. “‘In a River’ is new territory for me, because although it’s a studio recording, it’s pulling from one of the oldest traditions in music, a live performance in front of an audience."

Indeed, Rostam has played the new song at every show on his Half-Light tour this year, and he is sure to do so again in his two Southern California concerts this week: at Belly Up in Solana Beach on Thursday and The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on Friday. For details and tickets, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

To pick up a copy of Half-Light, head to iTunes, Amazon, or the Nonesuch Store, where CD and vinyl orders include a download of the complete album at checkout; you can also hear it on Apple Music and Spotify. Rostam released Half-Light Remixes: EP 1—reimagined versions of Half-Light by Tourist, Jim-E Stack, Instupendo, and Matsor Projects—earlier this year.

Kronos Quartet’s groundbreaking 2002 collaboration with composer Terry Riley, Sun Rings, will be available in full for the first time on August 30 via Nonesuch Records. Riley incorporates into his composition "space sounds" (plasma waves) that NASA had collected from the Voyager probes, as well as a choir that represents, in his words, "the voice of humanity in its struggle to understand the meaning of our place in this unfathomable universe." Musical America calls it "a spaceship that faces ahead into the planets but also looks back toward its starting point on Earth." Pre-order to download the track "Beebopterismo" now.
