Trumpeter/composer Ambrose Akinmusire and guitarist/composer Mary Halvorson have released a video for "Prelude in the Ash," the opening track to their new duo album, Slo-Mo Neon Luminate Hoverings. The album features four new compositions by each musician, like this one written by Akinmusire, plus one collaboration. "I wrote it with Mary in mind, just the voice leading and the strings and trying to see how much of an orchestra I could get out of the guitar," Akinmusire says of the song. "I'm really obsessed with voice leading and trying to voice lead something so much that it leads into unconventional places. That's kind of what that song does: it just keeps going when you think that it's going to stop; it just keeps the voice leading, and it keeps growing."
