Chicago-raised and Los Angeles-based composer, producer, saxophonist and synthesist Josh Johnson (SML, Jeff Parker ETA IVtet, Flea and The Honora Band) has released “It Can Be Everywhere," a new track from his upcoming solo album Animative, due October 23 on International Anthem / Nonesuch Records. You can hear the track and pre-order the album here, and watch the video, directed by Mikel Patrick Avery, here:

On “It Can Be Everywhere” Johnson creates a dreamscape with glittering synths, ethereal saxophone pads, and elegiac saxophone/violin melodies. Johnson says of the track: “‘It Can Be Everywhere’ is both statement and prompt—to imagine something greater, beyond where we currently stand, and to know that we can also carry that imagined place with us.”

“It Can Be Everywhere” is the second offering from Animative, following “Reece," which was released September 9 and Stereogum called “a horn-centric instrumental [that’s] rich and layered." Animative is the third album Johnson has released under his own name, and his first for International Anthem/Nonesuch. The ten track album is co-produced by Johnson and Paul Bryan and features contributions from Meshell Ndegeocello, Macie Stewart, Marquis Hill, Ben Lumsdaine, and more.

Earlier this month, the New York Times included Animative one of "33 Albums and Shows We’re Looking Forward to This Fall." Hank Shteamer wrote of Johnson: "The genre-bridging saxophonist has led the West Coast charge [and] has advanced an inviting brand of experimentalism … His upcoming solo effort, Animative, offers vibrant electroacoustic music well-suited to dancing or daydreaming."

Johnson will be performing Animative album release shows in Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Chicago and Brooklyn this fall. His live ensemble for the shows will be a trio with bassist Anna Butterss and drummer Ben Lumsdaine. You can find details and tickets at nonesuch.com/on-tour.

Robert Plant’s Saving Grace: All That Glitters... is now available digitally. The EP, previously released on vinyl for Record Store Day, follows Plant’s 2025 critically acclaimed album, Saving Grace; both feature singer Suzi Dian and a band of musicians from the English countryside that Plant calls home. The EP’s four tracks further explore the folk and Americana songs that Plant and the band love: the traditional tunes “The Blackest Crow” and “Two Coats,” Gillian Welch’s “Orphan Girl,” and Bert Jansch’s “Poison.” The video for "The Blackest Crow," made by Saving Grace cellist Barney Morse-Brown, may be seen here. Plant and the band are now touring the US.
