As part of the year-long celebration of Nonesuch Records' 60th anniversary, we're launching a new video series today called Nonesuch Selects. For the series, artists stop by the Nonesuch office, pick some of their favorites from the music library, and share a few words on their choices. Guitarist and composer Mary Halvorson, whose new album, Cloudward, is out tomorrow, kicks things off with music by Laurie Anderson, Tyondai Braxton, Jeff Parker, Caroline Shaw & Attacca Quartet, and Kronos Quartet. Cécile McLorin Salvant performs 12th-century trobairitz (female troubadour) Almucs de Castelneau's "Dame Iseut," from her Grammy-nominated new album, Mélusine, accompanied by Sullivan Fortner on harpsichord and Keita Ogawa on percussion, in the Unicorn Tapestries Room at The Met Cloisters in a new video out now as part of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s performance series, MetLiveArts. This is the third of three performances Salvant filmed in the Met’s Unicorn Tapestry galleries of songs from the album. You can watch it here.

Cécile McLorin Salvant performs Michel Lambert’s 1660 air de cour “D'un feu secret,” from her new album, Mélusine, accompanied by Dušan Balarin on theorbo (a type of French lute) and Sullivan Fortner on harpsichord, in the Unicorn Tapestries Room at The Met Cloisters in a new video out now as part of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s performance series, MetLiveArts. This is the second of three performances Salvant filmed in the Met’s Unicorn Tapestry galleries of songs from the album, following the title track last week and ahead of “Dame Iseut” next week. Rhiannon Giddens will host a new series on PBS, My Music with Rhiannon Giddens, produced by the team behind the long-running PBS series David Holt’s State of Music. In seven half-hour weekly episodes, beginning the week of May 1, Giddens hosts musical performances and conversations with guest artists filmed on location around the South, including Allison Russell, Rissi Palmer, Charly Lowry, Adia Victoria, Joy Clark, Francesco Turrisi, Justin Robinson, Lalenja Harrington, and Laurelyn Dossett.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Speaker Series at Juilliard, where she is a Creative Associate. Giddens, who opens her speech with a performance of the traditional tune “Pretty Saro,” centers the talk around artists' responsibility to themselves, their creative process, and their community.
