Adam Guettel's "The Light in the Piazza" Opens in Atlanta

Composer Adam Guettel's 2005 musical The Light in the Piazza begins previews at the Balzer Theater in Atlanta tonight with Opening Night this Saturday, April 16. Presented by Theatrical Outfit and directed by Richard Garner, the production stars Christy Baggett (Margaret), Tim Quartier (Fabrizio), and Devon Hales (Clara) and runs through May 15. For details and tickets, visit theatricaloutfit.org.

Guettel wrote the music and lyrics and Craig Lucas wrote the book for The Light in the Piazza, which began its Broadway run at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater in 2005. The New York Times called the original cast album, released on Nonesuch, "sublime ... the most intensely romantic score of any Broadway musical since West Side Story."

O'Hara, Morrison, and Clark all reunited at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre last Monday, April 5, for a special one-night-only benperformance of The Light in the Piazza to mark a decade since the Broadway production and to benefit Lincoln Center Theater in its Annual Benefit.
