Nickel Creek—Chris Thile, Sara Watkins, and Sean Watkins—taped its Austin City Limits set in August during the band's 25th anniversary tour, celebrating the release of its Nonesuch Records debut album, A Dotted Line. The recently trio returns for its third appearance on the series. Chris Thile also visited the show with Punch Brothers, and Sara Watkins recently appeared on the show with the Decemberists.

ACL closes out the celebratory season on February 14 with a special episode featuring performance highlights from the inaugural Austin City Limits Hall of Fame presentation, including Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, and Lyle Lovett, among others. The season's upcoming guests include Spoon, Sam Smith, Future Islands, Ryan Adams, Jenny Lewis, and Foo Fighters.

“We’ve had an amazing 40th anniversary year,” says ACL’s Terry Lickona, “and the second half of the season says as much about the future as our past. As always, we try to showcase the best music being created today, and every one of these shows is exceptional. Then for a grand finale, we’ll tie it all together with a celebration of the artists and individuals who have inspired the longest-running music show on TV.”

The Library of Congress has acquired the collection of manuscripts, instruments, costumes, video and audio recordings, and more from Kronos Quartet and its non-profit organization, Kronos Performing Arts Association. “It’s gratifying to know that Kronos’ legacy will be preserved in perpetuity alongside the manuscripts and other treasures of so many other influential musicians from the US and around the world," said KPAA Executive Director Janet Cowperthwaite. "We are perhaps even more excited to reflect upon all the musicians and scholars who will have access to these materials in years to come, informing their own work and carrying Kronos’ inspiration and influence into the future.” The Library also appointed Kronos founder, artistic director, and violinist David Harrington as the Kluge Chair in Modern Culture and inducted Kronos’ 1992 album Pieces of Africa into the National Recording Registry.
