The Brad Mehldau Trio—with Larry Grenadier on bass and Jeff Ballard on drums—kicks off a 10-day tour of North America with a free show at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center in New Orleans tonight, followed by stops in San Antonio, Mexico City, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, Seattle, and Portland. From there, the Trio heads to Europe for a three-week tour, stopping in several cities in the Netherlands—Groningen, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Tilburg, Maastricht, and Utrecht—and in Germany, France, Hungary, Romania, and Italy. See below for all of the Brad Mehldau Trio's fall tour dates.

Following the Trio tours, Mehldau heads to Dublin for the Irish premiere his Three Pieces After Bach, which he recently premiered in Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall, and to London for two solo recitals at Wigmore Hall. At the end of December, he returns to the States for a special duo show with Nonesuch label mate Chris Thile at the Bowery Ballroom. He heads back to Europe for more touring in early 2016. Nonesuch Records released Brad Mehldau's 10 Years Solo Live, culled from live recordings made over a decade of the pianist's European solo concerts, as an eight-LP set last month. It will be released as a four-CD set and digitally on November 13. The collection "contains some of the most impressive pianism he has captured on record," says the New York Times. He is "a player with a stunning virtuosity and daring ability to mine far reaches of improvisation," raves All About Jazz. This is "a beautiful release/box from a unique pianist who continually shows what the piano can do." To order the vinyl and pre-order the CD set, head to the Nonesuch Store.

The Library of Congress has acquired the collection of manuscripts, instruments, costumes, video and audio recordings, and more from Kronos Quartet and its non-profit organization, Kronos Performing Arts Association. “It’s gratifying to know that Kronos’ legacy will be preserved in perpetuity alongside the manuscripts and other treasures of so many other influential musicians from the US and around the world," said KPAA Executive Director Janet Cowperthwaite. "We are perhaps even more excited to reflect upon all the musicians and scholars who will have access to these materials in years to come, informing their own work and carrying Kronos’ inspiration and influence into the future.” The Library also appointed Kronos founder, artistic director, and violinist David Harrington as the Kluge Chair in Modern Culture and inducted Kronos’ 1992 album Pieces of Africa into the National Recording Registry.
