Brad Mehldau and his trio—Larry Grenadier on bass and Jeff Ballard on drums—return to Europe and the UK for a mostly sold-out two week tour, beginning at the beautiful, new Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg tonight. The tour continues with shows in Sweden and Norway, then heads to the UK for dates in Leeds, Manchester, Norwich, London, and Bath, and culminates back in Germany with a set at JazzFest Bonn on May 22. See below for all of the currently scheduled dates or visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

The trio’s latest album, Blues and Ballads, was released last year on Nonesuch to critical acclaim. The New York Times called it "beautiful," while MOJO, in its four-star review, called the album a “spellbinding set whose salient features are subtlety and understatement. Sublime stuff." The Times of London writes: "Brad Mehldau is adept at bending almost any music to the will of the jazz tradition" and gets "fairly down and dirty on this sublimely satisfying album."

Mehldau went on to release Nearness, a duo album with longtime friend saxophonist Joshua Redman, later in the year, and joined another label mate, Chris Thile, for a self-titled duo album earlier this year.

The Library of Congress has acquired the collection of manuscripts, instruments, costumes, video and audio recordings, and more from Kronos Quartet and its non-profit organization, Kronos Performing Arts Association. “It’s gratifying to know that Kronos’ legacy will be preserved in perpetuity alongside the manuscripts and other treasures of so many other influential musicians from the US and around the world," said KPAA Executive Director Janet Cowperthwaite. "We are perhaps even more excited to reflect upon all the musicians and scholars who will have access to these materials in years to come, informing their own work and carrying Kronos’ inspiration and influence into the future.” The Library also appointed Kronos founder, artistic director, and violinist David Harrington as the Kluge Chair in Modern Culture and inducted Kronos’ 1992 album Pieces of Africa into the National Recording Registry.
