Caetano Veloso closes out his US tour with music from zii e zie at the Fillmore in Miami Beach tonight. He spoke with the Miami New Times , which, after acknowledging comparisons to Dylan and Cohen, recognizes him as "a man as unique as a sunset's flash of green, who sings songs as beautiful as blue moons." Variety says the recent tour stop in LA was a "rock-centric effort" set against "the supple sweetness of Veloso's pristine voice." Sete was there and has footage and feedback from the event.

Caetano Veloso closes out his all-too-brief tour of the United States at the Fillmore at the Jackie Gleason Theatre in Miami Beach tonight. The tour followed the released of Veloso's latest Nonesuch release, zii e zie, and included stops in New York, Washington, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

In the lead-up to the tour closer at the Fillmore, Veloso spoke with the Miami New Times about a broad range of subjects, including the current tour, his musical influences, his latest album, and his quarter century making records for Nonesuch.

"He's been called 'the Brazilian Bob Dylan' on too many occasions to count," explains New Times writer John Hood in the introduction. "But he could just as easily be considered the Brazilian equivalent of Leonard Cohen, someone with a deep appreciation of both the classic and the modern, and unafraid to bring both to a profound and often swingin' fore. Mostly though, he is himself—a man as unique as a sunset's flash of green, who sings songs as beautiful as blue moons."

Last Thursday's concert in Los Angeles took place at the Greek Theare, where Veloso and the band from the new record—Pedro Sá, Ricardo Dias Gomes, Marcelo Callado—gave the crowd a "rock-centric effort," says Variety, that was set against "the supple sweetness of Veloso's pristine voice."

For instance, on one track off the new album performed in the live set, writes Variety reviewer Phil Gallo, "Veloso's angelic vocals floated above the intersecting rhythms created on guitar and drums to create three lanes of music traveling at different speeds and arriving at the same destination." Gallo says the band provided "an incendiary element" to the proceedings, calling particular attention to guitarist Sá, "whose stylistic breadth and command is downright astounding."

California's Brazilian news and culture magazine Sete was there as well. Sete correspondent Giselle Claudino spoke with audience members to get their reactions to night's events and with members of the band for their take on working with the legendary singer-songwriter.
