The Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA (CAP UCLA) has announced its 2015–16 season, and featured among the artists performing this season are several artists familiar to readers of the Nonesuch Journal: Randy Newman, Sam Amidon, Richard Goode, and Rokia Traoré. The season also includes works by Steve Reich, as part of a celebration of choreographer Anna Teresa De Keersmaeker, and the West Coast premiere of a new work by Timo Andres.

Randy Newman performs at Royce Hall in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 3, as part of CAP UCLA's Roots & Blues Series. Also performing at Royce Hall as part of the same series is Sam Amidon, who takes the stage on Friday, February 26, 2016, on a double bill with Regina Carter. (Bill Frisell, a frequent collaborator of Amidon's, will be Lucinda Williams's special guest at the Hall on March 4.)

Rokia Traoré brings Desdemona, her collaboration with Nobel Prize–winning author Toni Morrison and director Peter Sellars, to UCLA's Freud Playhouse for four nights in the Los Angeles premiere of the theater piece, October 8–11. The Guardian has called it “a remarkable, challenging and bravely original new work.”

Pianist Richard Goode joins the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, led by conductor Jeffrey Kahane, for a performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 18 in B-flat major on Sunday, October 18, at Royce Hall. The program also includes the West Coast premiere of Timo Andres's 2014 piece Word of Mouth.

Also next season at Royce Hall, choreographer Anna Teresa De Keersmaeker's dance company Rosas gives a four-night retrospective of her work, starting on Tuesday, November 10, with her 1982 piece Fase, set to the music of Steve Reich: Piano Phase, Come Out, Violin Phase, and Clapping Music. Finally, pianist/composer Tigran Hamasyan, who made his Nonesuch Records debut with the release of Mockroot earlier this year, is joined by the Yerevan State Chamber Choir for a program of Armenian sacred music on Saturday, December 5.

Subscriptions for the 2015–16 CAP UCLA season are on sale now; individual tickets go on sale June 26. For additional performance and ticket details, go to cap.ucla.edu.

The Library of Congress has acquired the collection of manuscripts, instruments, costumes, video and audio recordings, and more from Kronos Quartet and its non-profit organization, Kronos Performing Arts Association. “It’s gratifying to know that Kronos’ legacy will be preserved in perpetuity alongside the manuscripts and other treasures of so many other influential musicians from the US and around the world," said KPAA Executive Director Janet Cowperthwaite. "We are perhaps even more excited to reflect upon all the musicians and scholars who will have access to these materials in years to come, informing their own work and carrying Kronos’ inspiration and influence into the future.” The Library also appointed Kronos founder, artistic director, and violinist David Harrington as the Kluge Chair in Modern Culture and inducted Kronos’ 1992 album Pieces of Africa into the National Recording Registry.
