Devendra Banhart, whose new album, Ma, was released last week on Nonesuch, talks with Alison Mosshart, of The Kills and The Dead Weather, for the latest episode of Talkhouse Podcast. "It's a great record," says the show of Ma, "a fantastic record." You can listen to Banhart and Mosshart's conversation about their latest projects, a shared love of skateboarding, and more below.

"There is jubilation and mourning, existential unease and everyday amusement," says Pitchfork contributor Grayson Haver Currin in his review of Ma. "Banhart steps fully into these songs with a vitality that recalls his beginnings. ... Puckish and tender, Banhart seems again delighted to be here, too." You can read the review at pitchfork.com.

To pick up a copy of Ma, head to the Nonesuch Store, where vinyl and CD orders include a download of the complete album at checkout; the album can also be heard on Spotify , Apple Music, and Amazon.

Banhart will lead a twenty-four city North American tour beginning October 15 in Ventura, California. This will be his first tour of North America since 2017. Banhart has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 from every US ticket sold (excluding Austin) will go to World Central Kitchen, an organization founded by José Andrés to fight hunger around the world. With every ticket bought in Canada, $1 will go to support Rainbow Railroad to help LGBTI people around the world escape persecution and violence. He will tour Europe in early 2020. The Library of Congress has acquired the collection of manuscripts, instruments, costumes, video and audio recordings, and more from Kronos Quartet and its non-profit organization, Kronos Performing Arts Association. “It’s gratifying to know that Kronos’ legacy will be preserved in perpetuity alongside the manuscripts and other treasures of so many other influential musicians from the US and around the world," said KPAA Executive Director Janet Cowperthwaite. "We are perhaps even more excited to reflect upon all the musicians and scholars who will have access to these materials in years to come, informing their own work and carrying Kronos’ inspiration and influence into the future.” The Library also appointed Kronos founder, artistic director, and violinist David Harrington as the Kluge Chair in Modern Culture and inducted Kronos’ 1992 album Pieces of Africa into the National Recording Registry.
