Randy Newman begins a fall tour of the United States featuring music from his new album, Dark Matter, at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts in Virginia Beach tonight. The tour continues in New Jersey, upstate New York, Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, before heading West to California, Oregon, and Washington. Newman has two sold-out shows at the Chicago Theatre in mid-October, then heads South to the Carolinas, Atlanta, and Florida, and a concert at Austin's Paramount Theatre has just been announced for December. He will be a guest on A Prairie Home Companion with host Chris Thile on October 21. Additional dates will be announced shortly. See below for all of the US shows; for all the latest, including details of Newman's 2018 European tour, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

Nonesuch Records released Dark Matter, the follow-up to 2008’s best-selling Harps and Angels, in August to widespread critical acclaim. Randy Newman "remains first and foremost a craftsman of song, capable of telling ordinary stories in ways no one quite has before," says NPR. Newman is "still at the top of his game on his first studio album of all-new material in nine years," says the Associated Press. "Dark Matter is a typically engaging mix of topical tunes, quirky characters, history lessons and wry asides." Q gives it four stars and concludes: "There's still nobody like Randy Newman."
