Record Store Day, the annual celebration of independent record stores, is set to take place on Saturday, April 18, and included among the special limited-edition releases on that day are recordings from artists familiar to readers of the Nonesuch Journal: Robert Plant, Steve Reich, and Buena Vista Social Club.

Nonesuch/Warner Bros. releases a Record Store Day exclusive EP by Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters. Entitled More Roar, the record features three tracks on black 10” vinyl recorded live during the group’s lullaby and... Ceaseless Roar World Tour 2014: Side A is "Turn It Up" / "Arbaden," and side B is “Poor Howard” and “Whole Lotta Love (Medley)” Medley.” The EP will be limited to 10,000 copies.

Nonesuch re-issues the Steve Reich landmark piece Music for 18 Musicians, performed by Steve Reich and Musicians, on two 180-gram vinyl LPs. The album was pressed at Pallas Manufacturing in Diepholz, Germany, and is packaged in a vintage-style double pocket gatefold jacket with poly sleeves. The original 1998 recording, which was released on CD and earned a Grammy Award for Best Small Ensemble Performance, has been mastered for vinyl by Robert C. Ludwig. Each limited-edition record will be individually numbered.

The Buena Vista Social Club album Lost and Found, a collection of previously unreleased tracks from the Buena Vista all-star cast of Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González, Cachaíto López, Guajiro Mirabal, Eliades Ochoa, Omara Portuondo, and Compay Segundo, is due March 24 from World Circuit Records, distributed in North America by Nonesuch. For Record Store Day, a 7" vinyl of the song "Chan Chan," famously featured on the Grammy Award-winning original Buena Vista Social Club album, will be released with "Macusa," from Lost and Found, on the flip side.

Record Store Day, now in its eighth year, celebrates the unique culture surrounding over 1,000 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally. To find out what special releases will be available at a participating local retailer near you, head to recordstoreday.com.

The Library of Congress has acquired the collection of manuscripts, instruments, costumes, video and audio recordings, and more from Kronos Quartet and its non-profit organization, Kronos Performing Arts Association. “It’s gratifying to know that Kronos’ legacy will be preserved in perpetuity alongside the manuscripts and other treasures of so many other influential musicians from the US and around the world," said KPAA Executive Director Janet Cowperthwaite. "We are perhaps even more excited to reflect upon all the musicians and scholars who will have access to these materials in years to come, informing their own work and carrying Kronos’ inspiration and influence into the future.” The Library also appointed Kronos founder, artistic director, and violinist David Harrington as the Kluge Chair in Modern Culture and inducted Kronos’ 1992 album Pieces of Africa into the National Recording Registry.
