Rhiannon Giddens Tours UK & Ireland
    John Peets

Rhiannon Giddens begins a tour of the UK and Ireland, featuring music from her latest album, Freedom Highway, at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London tonight. The tour continues with concerts in Bristol, Birmingham, Milton Keynes, Pocklington, Manchester, Dublin, and Glasgow, culminating at the Sage Gateshead on November 28. Her live show is “magnificent,” says the Guardian, “a virtuoso slice of Americana."

See below for details. For all the latest, including four performances with Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne in France next month and a number of US dates announced for the new year, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

Giddens was recently named a MacArthur Fellow for 2017 and was nominated for International Artist of the Year at the 2018 UK Americana Awards. Her new album, Freedom Highway, has just been nominated for Best New Album of 2017 in the fRoots critics poll. The Guardian calls it a “powerful and timely set,” and Uncut named the "remarkably wise and timely new album" its Album of the Month. Pitchfork exclaims: "Rhiannon Giddens emerges as a peerless and powerful voice in roots music."

Freedom Highway is available now on iTunes, Amazon, and in the Nonesuch Store and can be heard on Spotify and Apple Music.

In honor of Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch puppeteer Caroll Spinney's retirement from Sesame Street after nearly 50 years, we revisit Kronos Quartet's trip to that beloved street in 1987 to talk with Big Bird about the string quartet and making music. "His open and kind-hearted view of the world and how we should treat each other is something we should forever aspire to," Kronos says of Spinney, and we concur.
