Sam Phillips recently stopped by NPR's World Cafe to speak with host David Dye about her latest Nonesuch release, Don't Do Anything. She also performed four songs off the new album, accompanied by Eric Gorfain on violin and guitar: "Sister Rosetta Goes Before Us," inspired by pioneering gospel singer Sister Rosetta Tharpe (and covered last year by Alison Krauss and Robert Plant on their T Bone Burnett–produced album, Raising Sand); "Little Plastic Life," which Sam says is "about the domestic dreams we seem to put on ourselves and each other"; "Signal," with Gorfain on Stroh violin; and the album opener, "No Explanations."

You can hear all four songs and listen to the complete 25-minute segment on this week's show at NPR.org/music.
