    The video for "By Some Miracle," the opening track to Philip Selway's solo debut album, Familial, premiered on MySpace last week. It has now been posted to Selway's YouTube channel and can be seen here. The Miami New Times says of the video: "While it incorporates some Radiohead elements, we can't help but think the plot resembles a dark indie film: Filled with beautiful people, with psychological problems that aren't so pretty.

    Philip Selway's Familial was released earlier this week; People calls it "a dreamy solo debut." The Onion's A.V. Club calls it "a hushed, fragile collection" with some "truly beautiful, affecting tracks" The New York Post says "Selway's songs feature plain-speaking, personal lyrics and whistle-able melodies." Complex calls it "a warm, folk-ish record that’s a definite departure from his group’s previous catalog, while maintaining Radiohead’s standard for quality."     Today marks the North American release of Philip Selway's Familial. The Detroit Free Press says the Radiohead drummer "defies expectations on his solo debut," which "showcases Selway's gentle, tuneful vocals ... Familial is a wonderful surprise." The Globe and Mail gives the album four stars, citing its ""haunting Nick Drake-style of contemporary folk." The Village Voice says "Elliott Smith's influence runs strong." Philadelphia Weekly calls it "a delicate and dreamy record of intimately told folk songs."

    "By Some Miracle," the opening track to Philip Selway's just-released solo debut album, Familial, is now the album's featured music video, which premiered on MySpace and can be seen here. "'By Some Miracle' is always the first track that I play to people who are new to my songs," Selway tells Spinner. "I'm aware that no one knows what to expect from me outside Radiohead, and so I think this song sets the tone for what is to come on the record."

    Philip Selway kicked off his tour in Tokyo last night performing the "warm, tender acoustic nuggets" of Familial, reports SPIN, proving to be a "talented frontman." The Irish Independent hears "pleasurable echoes of the comforting delicate folk of Nick Drake" on the new album, The Independent (UK) "the quieter moments of Talk Talk and Radiohead." The Sun gives 4.5 stars to this "mighty fine" album, featuring "one of the most gorgeous songs you'll hear all year."

    Ahead of next week's release of Familial, Philip Selway launches a month-long tour of Japan and Europe. Following performances in Tokyo and Osaka, he heads to Ireland and the UK for several shows, including three with Wilco. NME gives Familial an 8, saying "Selway has delivered an album so honest and thoughtful, you'll see not only drummers but yourself in a new light." MOJO concurs, saying it "shows a sensitivity seldom credited to stickmen."

    Philip Selway's debut solo album, Familial, can now be heard streaming in its entirety, featured as NPR's First Listen, at npr.org. "As a member of one of the most accomplished rock bands in the world, the bar is set pretty high," says NPR's Robin Hilton. "But when you listen to the beautifully produced pieces Selway came up with on Familial, it's easy to see him not as a percussionist, but as a genuine singer-songwriter." Hilton continues: "Selway can sing, and he's got a wonderfully nuanced voice ... And the songs Selway wrote sound heartfelt and inspired."

Selway is the subject of a feature profile in the Irish Independent, which calls Familial "a gentle, comforting, whisper-in-the-ear sort of album with pleasing echoes of Nick Drake." The BBC says the album is "full of sweet sentiment and honest meditations."

    The Times of London has published a profile of Philip Selway, calling his forthcoming album, Familial, "remarkably assured." The Word says: "The whole thing is rather beautiful." MOJO and MusicOMH give the album four stars, the latter calling it "incredibly folky and intimate" and proclaiming: "Selway can sing." Q concurs, saying Selway is "blessed with a warm and gentle voice"; Uncut calls Familial "moving and accomplished."

Billboard refers to "the album's pared-down, acoustic sound," about which Selway says: "It's a world apart from what I do in Radiohead."
