The Black Keys to Release "Lonely Boy" Limited-Edition 12" on Record Store Day's "Back to Black" Friday

As part of Record Store Day's "Back to Black" Friday on November 25, 2011, The Black Keys will release a limited-edition vinyl 12-inch of their new single, "Lonely Boy" (pictured at left), to participating indie music retailers. Both the lead track and the B-side, "Run Right Back," are featured on the band's forthcoming album, El Camino, which hits stores on December 6. Album pre-orders, available now in the Nonesuch Store, include a download of "Lonely Boy," which will be delivered on October 26.

Rolling Stone, which revealed the Record Store Day 12-inch cover art earlier today, spoke with the band's creative director, Michael Carney, about his design for the record sleeve. "I went to take a picture of the building that the [band's 2004] album Rubber Factory was recorded in, and this is what was there—a giant pile of bricks and a bulldozer," Carney says. "The back cover is a pile of discarded tires behind an abandoned shopping mall."

Sam Amidon's new album, The Following Mountain, is out now. (Outside the US, the CD will follow on June 2, the vinyl on June 30.) Created with producer Leo Abrahams (Brian Eno, Regina Spektor) and Amidon's frequent collaborator Shahzad Ismaily, it represents a new approach for Amidon, who shifts here from his previous norm of re-working traditional folk songs and presents nine wholly original compositions, with some lyrics drawing on traditional sources. To coincide with the album's release, Amidon has unveiled a video for the album track "Blackbird," which you can watch here. He will play an album release concert at Union Pool in Brooklyn on June 14.

Randy Newman's first album of new material in nine years, Dark Matter, is due August 4 on Nonesuch; vinyl on August 18. It is the follow-up to 2008’s acclaimed Harps and Angels, which the Guardian called "the work of a true master of popular song." Produced by long-time Newman collaborators Mitchell Froom, Lenny Waronker, and David Boucher, the album includes songs about Vladimir Putin, the Kennedy brothers, Sonny Boy Williamson, science vs. religion, love and loss, and more. Pre-orders include an instant download of the album track "Putin" and an exclusive print, a limited number of which will be signed by Newman.
