The Black Keys to Perform on Letterman Thursday Night; Record Store Day Saturday

The Black Keys

Tune in to the Late Show with David Letterman tomorrow night to catch The Black Keys perform a song off their new album, Attack & Release. Also scheduled to appear are Kelly Ripa and Dr. John P. Holdren, an expert on climate change. The show starts at 11:30 PM ET. For more information, visit cbs.com.

This Saturday, TBK fans in the New York area should stop by the Other Music record store at 15 East 4th Street, at 2 PM, to catch the guys spin an hourlong guest-DJ set in store as part of Record Store Day, the nationwide celebration of independently owned music stores. Hundreds of stores across the country will participate in the daylong event. Also playing guest-DJ sets at Other Music on Saturday will be Tapes 'N' Tapes at 12:30 PM, Dead Meadow at 3 PM, Grizzly Bear and Deerhunter with a battle of the DJs at 4 PM, and Interpol, closing out the day starting at 5 PM.

Also as part of the celebration, Other Music and other participating stores across the country will be selling limited-edition vinyl singles and EPs from artists like Vampire Weekend, the Breeders, Stephen Malkmus, and Built to Spill. They'll also be giving away all sorts of prizes and have special deals throughout the day.

Visit recordstoreday.com for information on how indie stores in your area are participating. Visit othermusic.com for more on The Black Keys' set there.

Comments

I happen to work at a CIMS store heavily participating in the events of record store day.
This past week we received word that Warner Bros would be charging all Independent retailers for these “promotional” singles. They are the only participating label doing this to us.
What a load of BS they’re trying to feed people. Don’t let WB fool you into thinking that they’re actually out for the little guy.

My name is Michael Kurtz and I am one of the guys who put Record Store Day together. I wanted to quickly point out that the information about Warner Bros. charging us for promotional singles is not correct and there was probably was just some confusion on this. Like the series of Merge commercial singles, and the series of Atlantic commercial singles made specifically for Record Store Day, Warner Bros created a series for indie stores. We always knew that they were going to be commercial pieces. Warner Bros. has been EXTREMELY supportive of the indies well beyond this as they were one of the first labels to jump on board with support(including special in-store appearances by Metallica, Regina Spektor, and the Black Keys). As one of the main guys who put this huge event together, I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt that Warner Bros. totally rocked it and deserve some serious praise. Peace and love to all!
