The second season of the weekly PBS show My Music with Rhiannon Giddens premieres today. This six-episode season features the Silkroad Ensemble, of which Giddens is Artistic Director, and its American Railroad program. The season's first guest is pipa virtuoso Wu Man. You can watch that episode here:

You’re the One is Giddens' third solo studio album and her first of all original songs. This collection of twelve tunes written over the course of her career bursts with life-affirming energy, drawing from the folk music she knows so deeply and its pop descendants. The album was produced by Jack Splash (Kendrick Lamar, Solange, Alicia Keys, Valerie June) and recorded with an ensemble including Giddens' closest musical collaborators from the past decade, a string section, and Miami Horns. The lone featured guest on the album is Jason Isbell on “Yet to Be.” You can get it and hear it here.

Giddens' You're the One tour takes her to Texas for shows in Dallas and Austin this week, before heading to Louisiana for the New Orleans Jazz Festival this weekend. She performs at a number of festivals in the US and Europe this summer. For details, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

"Sarah Kirkland Snider is, quite simply, one of my favorite living composers," Stephen Rodgers, host of Resounding Verse, says on the latest episode of the podcast about poetry and song. "I love her vocal works. She has a great sense for the human voice, she sets text beautifully." "Alleluia," the third movement of Mass for the Endangered, composed by Snider with a libretto by poet/writer Nathaniel Bellows, is the subject of the episode. You can hear the episode here.

Chris Thile and Hurray for the Riff Raff each performed on the Aspen Ideas Festival campus for NPR's Field Recordings series of shows filmed "off the beaten path." Thile was in Anderson Park to perform Bach with students from the Aspen Music School and two solo pieces from his album Laysongs. Hurray for the Riff Raff was joined by guitarist Johnny Wilson in a meadow beneath the Elk Mountains to perform five songs from the new album The Past Is Still Alive—"one of our favorites of the year," says NPR's Suraya Mohamed. You can watch both here.
