k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang have moved the celebration of their new album's release to the East Coast, performing "I Confess," the opening track to Sing it Loud, on Good Morning America this morning, which you can watch here, and appearing on The View tomorrow. They perform the entire album at New York's Poisson Rouge tonight. USA Today says "lang ranks among our finest purveyors of dreamy, creamy, country-tinged torch songs, picking up the mantle from Roy Orbison and Peggy Lee with these perfect vehicles for her vibrant voice." KCRW named the album's title track yesterday's Top Tune, saying lang "sounds as strong as ever." The Arts Desk has named Sing it Loud Album of the Day, and MusicOMH gives it four stars.

k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang continue to celebrate the North American release of their new album, Sing it Loud, out this week on Nonesuch. They have moved the celebration from the West Coast, where they performed the album's opening track, "I Confess," on The Tonight Show on Monday, to the East Coast, where they played the song on Good Morning America this morning, which you can watch below, and will appear on The View tomorrow. lang and the band will give an intimate performance of the entire album at New York's Poisson Rouge tonight, as they did earlier in the week at the Troubador in LA. New York Times music critic Jon Pareles, previewing tonight's concert, says, "k.d. lang’s big, sultry voice harks back to a bygone era, when pop and country singers knew how to linger over a song’s melody."

Good Morning America host Robin Roberts welcomed lang by saying: "This is a great way for us to start our day. We love having you here." The two discussed the new album and take a look at lang's unforgettable performance of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" at the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games:

USA Today gives Sing it Loud three-and-a-half stars. "lang ranks among our finest purveyors of dreamy, creamy, country-tinged torch songs, picking up the mantle from Roy Orbison and Peggy Lee with these perfect vehicles for her vibrant voice," says USA Today's Jerry Shriver. "And her new alt-country-steeped band provides backing that can be amiable or sweepingly romantic."

Back on the West Coast, NPR member station KCRW, out of Santa Monica, chose "Sing it Loud," the title track on the new album, as yesterday's Top Tune. "k.d. lang has an impressive vocal command," says KCRW. "Her voice truly is an instrument and she's surrounded herself with a new group of talented players on her upcoming full length. The Grammy Award-winning singer sounds as strong as ever on ... the title track from Sing It Loud." Listen to track at kcrw.org. On April 29, lang and the Siss Boom Bang will join KCRW for a very special live session at Apogee's Berkeley Street Studio, which will air on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic on May 16.

Over in the UK, where Sing it Loud is due out on Monday, The Arts Desk has named it Album of the Day. lang's voice, writes Adam Sweeting, "remains utterly formidable, capable of awesome feats of power and sustain as well as feathery introspection and a kind of bruised erotic regret." Read more at theartsdesk.com.

MusicOMH gives the album four stars, saying "there's a palpable energy to these 10 tracks."

Reviewer Rosie Wilby says:

It will come as no surprise to fans to hear that the heart melting properties (whatever your sexual persuasion) of lang's wondrous vocals remain intact. She has an innate way of swooping between notes, caressing a melody and instilling it with such yearning. Right from the piano openings of lead single I Confess through the dramatic opening dilemma of A Sleep With No Dreaming ... she seduces.

Wilby concludes, "It's great to hear this timeless artist so relaxed and enjoying herself." Read the review at musicomh.com.
