    Ben Folds's fall tour, featuring music from Lonely Avenue, his new album with Nick Hornby, kicks off soon and now includes a New York City show December 14. That comes amidst the second season of NBC’s a cappella competition The Sing-Off. Folds returns as a judge on the successful series, which starts December 6 and will reward America’s best a cappella group with a professional recording contract and $100,000.

    Ben Folds and Nick Hornby follow last week's New York City appearances with a PEN/Faulkner event at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue in Washington, DC. Hornby will read from his latest novel, Juliet, Naked; Folds will perform songs from their album, Lonely Avenue. The Washington Post Express calls them "a match made in heaven." Folds has just added a New York City date to his fall tour, with tickets now available to fans, and will return to DC in December to present his photography at National Geographic.

Tune in at 2 PM ET on 93.9 FM or listen online at wnyc.org. The pair performed last night as part of SPIN magazine's Liner Notes series at a benefit for the Housing Works AIDS Charity in New York City. Folds and Hornby continue their New York appearances with a performance on Thursday evening at Barnes & Noble's Union Square location for the series Upstairs at the Square.

    Ben Folds and Nick Hornby will co-headline "Liner Notes," an event at Housing Works Bookstore Cafe in New York City on Tuesday, October 12 to explore the cross-pollination of music and literature while raising funds for Housing Works, a New York-based HIV/AIDS service organization. Presented by SPIN and moderated by the magazine’s deputy editor, Steve Kandell, the event will be broadcast SIRIUS XM radio in November.

The Independent gives Lonely Avenue four stars, saying it "proves to be an intelligent, sometimes amusing, sometimes moving, but always engaging collection of songs, pitched somewhere between Randy Newman and an Anglo-American Divine Comedy."
