Congratulations to composers Steve Reich, Jonny Greenwood, and Sarah Kirkland Snider on being shortlisted for Germany's Opus Klassik Awards. Reich's Jacob's Ladder / Traveler's Prayer is up for World Premiere Recording of the Year; Greenwood's score to the Paul Thomas Anderson film One Battle After Another for Film Music/Score of the Year; and Snider's album Forward into Light for New Classic/Neoclassic. 

The 2026 BBC Proms schedule has been announced, including performances by Ambrose Akinmusire and Thomas Adès and music by Adès, John Adams, Gabriel Kahane, Steve Reich, and Caroline Shaw. The 86-concert series takes place in the UK over eight weeks this summer. Every Prom will be broadcast on Radio 3 and BBC Sounds and twenty-four will be broadcast on BBC television and iPlayer.

Carnegie Hall has announced its 2026–27 concert season, including performances by Caroline Shaw, who has been named Richard and Barbara Debs Composer’s Chair for the season, Jeremy Denk, Gabriel Kahane, Kronos Quartet, Punch Brothers, and Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens, and works by Steve Reich, John Adams, David Longstreth, and others.

"Steve Reich was a very important part of my listening," Brian Eno tells the New York Times' Ezra Klein. "All of his work, I think, depends on making your brain perform and watch itself performing in a certain way. So I suddenly thought then, ‘Oh, the composer isn’t just Steve Reich. It’s Steve Reich and my brain that’s making this composition what it is.’ And that thought never left me, that you actually are engaging the technology of the listener’s brain to complete the piece. Composer Steve Reich, whose new album, Jacob's Ladder / Traveler's Prayer, and the 27-disc box set Collected Works were recently released on Nonesuch, stopped by for the Nonesuch Selects video series, in which artists visit the Nonesuch office, pick some of their favorite albums from the music library, and share a few words on their choices. Composer Steve Reich's publisher Boosey & Hawkes has released the latest in its Study Score Video series, featuring the final section of Reich's latest piece, 2023's Jacob's Ladder, and its just-released world premiere recording, performed by New York Philharmonic, Jaap Van Zweden, and Synergy Vocals. "Superb." Traveler's Prayer, performed by Colin Currie Group and Synergy Vocals, was made at Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall in 2023. "The tone of its score, from first note to last, is sustained sublimity," says the Los Angeles Times. The two pieces were first released earlier this year digitally and as part of the 27-disc box set Steve Reich Collected Works.

"Composer Steve Reich is one of the most influential musicians of modern times," BBC Radio 4's This Cultural Life host John Wilson says of his guest. "In the 1960s he helped rewrite the rules of composition, using analogue tape machines to experiment with rhythm, repetition and syncopation. "When you've had a six decade long career at the forefront of contemporary music, and your record label issues a 27-disc box set called Collected Works, you tend to want to look back a bit," says New Sounds host John Schaefer. "Steve Reich is the subject of such a box set." Reich is also Schaefer's guest for the full hour of the show, in which they do look back to hear and discuss some of those earlier works as well as two new works in the set, Jacob’s Ladder (2023) and Traveler’s Prayer (2020). "People have been calling Steve Reich the greatest living composer for more than 25 years," says NPR's Weekend Edition host Ayesha Rascoe in her introduction to Reich's interview with NPR's Tom Huizenga on the release of the 27-disc box set Steve Reich Collected Works. About the collection, the composer says: "It makes me feel very good ... It's another way of saying the music is going to get out there. The music is going to have a life independent of me ... The 27-disc box set Steve Reich Collected Works is out now on Nonesuch. It features music recorded during the composer's 40 years on the label—six decades of his compositions, including first recordings of his two latest works, Jacob’s Ladder and Traveler’s Prayer (both also available to stream/download today)—plus two extensive booklets with new essays by Robert Hurwitz, Michael Tilson Thomas, Russell Hartenberger, Judith Sherman, and Nico Muhly, and a comprehensive listener’s guide by Timo Andres. Nonesuch made its first record with Steve Reich in 1985; he was signed exclusively to the label that year. Collected Works includes 24 discs of Nonesuch recordings and three from other labels.
