The Brad Mehldau Trio—Mehldau on piano, Larry Grenadier on bass, and Jeff Ballard on drums—launches a tour of the United States and Europe ahead of the release of the new album Seymour Reads the Constitution!, due May 18 on Nonesuch Records. The group's "performances are models of concision," says the Chicago Reader, "muscle rippling through the prettiness and refined communication keeping each composition masterful." The tour begins at the Manship Theatre in Baton Rouge tonight, followed by shows in Texas, Colorado, Utah, New York, and Massachusetts, including a three-night, six-set residency at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston. The group heads to Europe in May for shows in Berlin, Dublin, Amsterdam, Rome, Prague, and more.

"Each successive display of Mehldau's gifts," says All About Jazz in a four-and-a-half star review of his newly released solo album, After Bach, "generates absolute wonder. With equal facility, the pianist manages to adopt a lilting grace even as he probes so deeply into his material."
