Congratulations to k.d. lang, whom the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) has named the 2024 artist inductee to the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, and who will be honored and celebrated in an exclusive induction ceremony during Country Music Week 2024, taking place in Edmonton, Alberta, September 11–14.

“I am beyond thrilled, and frankly pleasantly surprised to be honored in this way,” lang says. "My love for the prairies, the people, and our culture underscore every ounce of my inspiration. Not without its complexities, I might add. Such is life. I am so stoked to be coming to Edmonton to bask in this celebration … with deepest gratitude.”

CCMA President Amy Jeninga shares: “A true Canadian icon and trailblazer in country music and beyond, k.d. embraced the genre with unparalleled passion, and her extraordinary talents have left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape of our nation. We proudly honor her incredible legacy and outstanding contributions, and can’t wait to celebrate her induction in Edmonton this September.”

Internationally acclaimed, Edmonton-born singer-songwriter k.d. lang stands as a true icon in contemporary music, renowned for her unparalleled voice and groundbreaking contributions to the industry. With a career spanning over four decades, lang has amassed a remarkable collection of accolades including four GRAMMY awards, eight JUNO Awards, ten CCMA Awards including three consecutive wins for Album of the Year and two consecutive Entertainer of the Year Awards, a BRIT Award, an AMA, a VMA, four awards from GLAAD, and was recognized in 1996 with Canada’s highest civilian honor, the Order of Canada. Her 2013 induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame further underscored her status as a national treasure, and recent years have seen lang continue to receive acclaim, including the Alberta Order of Excellence Award in 2021 and the Governor General’s Performing Arts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023.

She has appeared alongside such musical luminaries as Tony Bennett, Elton John, Loretta Lynn, Roy Orbison, and Bonnie Raitt, and in 2014 made her Broadway debut in the Tony Award–nominated musical After Midnight. In 2017, she celebrated the 25th anniversary of her Platinum selling breakthrough album, Ingénue, with critically acclaimed tours in Australia, Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom/Ireland. In 2021, she released makeover, a collection of classic dance remixes that reimagined some of her best-loved songs released between 1992 and 2000.

The Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame was established in 1984 to honor Canadian Artists and Builders who have made long-term contributions to the growth and development of Canadian country music. Its permanent physical home is located at Studio Bell, home of the National Music Centre, in Calgary and consists of over 3,000 artifacts, including instruments and memorabilia. Inductees into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame are selected annually by their Canadian peers in the industry. The Hall of Fame is managed by the CCMA Board of Directors’ appointed Hall of Fame Management Committee.

As the custodian of the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, the National Music Centre will celebrate the legacies of the 2024 inductees and past honorees with a new exhibition opening on September 11, 2024. More details will be announced closer to its opening. For all the latest, visit ccma.org.
