Chris Thile has released a new video of him performing "Dionysus," a song from his new solo album, Laysongs, filmed live in Brooklyn. You can watch the video, made by Benjamin Miller, here:

Laysongs is Chris Thile's first truly solo album: just Thile, his voice, and his mandolin, on new recordings of six original songs and three covers, all of which contextualize and banter with his ideas about spirituality. Recorded in a converted upstate New York church during the pandemic, Laysongs features the three-part Salt (in the Wounds) of the Earth, which was inspired by C.S. Lewis’s The Screwtape Letters; a song Thile wrote about Dionysus; a selection from Béla Bartók’s Sonata for Solo Violin; “God Is Alive, Magic Is Afoot” based on Buffy Sainte-Marie’s adaptation of a Leonard Cohen poem; and a Hazel Dickens cover.

Thile has two solo concerts in upstate New York this weekend, at Chautauqua Amphitheater in Chautauqua on Saturday and Hudson Valley Ampitheater in Montgomery on Sunday. There are some more shows ahead this summer and a fall tour to come. See below for details and tickets; for all the latest, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

Composer and guitarist Yasmin Williams's new album, Acadia, is out today. The album, her Nonesuch debut and her most sonically expansive work to date, comprises nine original, mostly instrumental, tracks written and produced by Williams, and features her on various guitars, banjo, calabash drum, tap shoes, and kora. Williams is joined on the album by an eclectic cast of collaborators—including Immanuel Wilkins on saxophone, Dom Flemons on rhythm bones, Aoife O’Donovan on vocals, William Tyler on guitar, and many others—creating a folk music that reflects the wide range of musical influences that have inspired her throughout her life.
