Brad Mehldau, whose new album, Modern Music, is out now on Nonesuch Records, will be the guest on the Jamie Cullum show on BBC Radio 2 this evening. Cullum's show showcases the host's love for all types of jazz, and music rooted in jazz, from its heritage to the future. Mehldau stopped by the BBC Maida Vale Studios in London to perform songs both from Modern Music and his solo CD/DVD Live in Marciac, released earlier this year on Nonesuch. Tune in live today at 7 PM London time, streaming around the world at bbc.co.uk.

Modern Music is a collaboration between Brad Mehldau and fellow pianist Kevin Hays and composer/arranger Patrick Zimmerli, all longtime friends. The album features pieces written by each of the three musicians as well as works by Steve Reich, Ornette Coleman, and Philip Glass, performed by the two pianists in arrangements by Zimmerli. The Guardian calls it a "fascinating session" that's "full of surprises." The New York Times says the pianists bring "a high sheen to some choice material."

To pick up a copy of Modern Music, Live in Marciac, and all of the albums in Mehldau's Nonesuch catalog, head to the Nonesuch Store, where CD orders include high-quality, 320 kbps MP3s at checkout. Modern Music is also available there as FLAC lossless files.

Brad Mehldau will be joined by label mate Joshua Redman for a six-week US duo tour starting next week, October 13, at the Williams Center for the Arts in Easton, Pennsylvania. For details, go to nonesuch.com/on-tour.

The Library of Congress has acquired the collection of manuscripts, instruments, costumes, video and audio recordings, and more from Kronos Quartet and its non-profit organization, Kronos Performing Arts Association. “It’s gratifying to know that Kronos’ legacy will be preserved in perpetuity alongside the manuscripts and other treasures of so many other influential musicians from the US and around the world," said KPAA Executive Director Janet Cowperthwaite. "We are perhaps even more excited to reflect upon all the musicians and scholars who will have access to these materials in years to come, informing their own work and carrying Kronos’ inspiration and influence into the future.” The Library also appointed Kronos founder, artistic director, and violinist David Harrington as the Kluge Chair in Modern Culture and inducted Kronos’ 1992 album Pieces of Africa into the National Recording Registry.
