Chris Thile and Michael Daves have announced a short run of tour dates in the Midwest in September, stopping in Ann Arbor, Urbana, and Chicago. These follow summer festival sets at Telluride, Grey Fox, and Newport and a headline set in Brooklyn. Relix calls their debut album, Sleep with One Eye Open, a "boisterous tribute to their bluegrass roots," one that "literally crackles with youthful energy." The review concludes: "If bluegrass ever needs another revival, this future classic is more than enough to keep the flame lit."

Chris Thile and Michael Daves, whose debut duo album, Sleep with One Eye Open, was released last month on Nonesuch, have announced a short run of tour dates in the Midwest in September. The mandolin virtuoso and guitar maven are headlining shows at The Ark in Ann Arbor, Michigan, on September 8, and Lincoln Hall in Chicago on September 10. Tickets go on sale this weekend.  They are also performing a free show at ELLNORA | The Guitar Festival in Champaign, Illinois, on September 9. Fellow Nonesuch artists Carolina Chocolate Drops are performing at the festival that same day.

As noted last week in the Nonesuch Journal, Thile and Daves will be joining the stellar lineup at Newport Folk Festival and will perform on Sunday, July 31, as are Carolina Chocolate Drops, Emmylou Harris, and Wanda Jackson.

The currently scheduled tour dates are listed below. For further details and tickets links, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

Relix magazine reviewer Bill Murphy calls Thile and Daves's album a "boisterous tribute to their bluegrass roots," one that "literally crackles with youthful energy." Murphy adds that the two musicians "are also gifted singers" and concludes: "If bluegrass ever needs another revival, this future classic is more than enough to keep the flame lit." Read the complete review at relix.com. The duo recently performed the non-album tune "Cold Rain and Snow" at the Relix offices; you can watch the video at relix.com.
