Gidon Kremer and the Kremerata Baltica launch their North American tour in Seattle this Friday. Their latest Nonesuch release, De Profundis, was featured on NPR's All Things Considered Sunday, among select albums for the fall. The album "plays through like a fascinating mix tape, with a surprise around every corner," says NPR classical producer Tom Huizenga. "It's fantastic ... a very heady but very listenable and terrific mix of music and politics."

De Profundis was featured on NPR's All Things Considered yesterday, as part of NPR classical producer Tom Huizenga's presentation of a few select albums for the fall. The album, says Huizenga, "plays through like a fascinating mix tape, with a surprise around every corner."

For the show, Huizenga plays the album piece "Sogno di Stabat Mater," by Russian-born composer Lera Auerbach, a "wonderful" piece, with "somewhat of a dreamlike feel to it."

All Things Considered host Guy Raz finds the piece to be "really interesting stuff." While he defers to Huizenga for classical music expertise, Raz says of Kremer's music: "Every time I listen to him, I'm amazed because there's always something about it that's interesting."

Huizenga concurs, replying that De Profundis "is just, in theory and in practice, it's fantastic ... a very heady but very listenable and terrific mix of music and politics."

You can listen to the All Things Considered segment and hear an excerpt from Sogno di Stabat Mater at npr.org.

To pick up a copy of De Profundis with high-quality, 320 kbps MP3s of the album included at checkout, head to the Nonesuch Store.
