Nonesuch Records wishes Pat Metheny a very happy birthday this Sunday. Before then, the guitarist/composer closes out the current leg of his US tour with his Unity Band—featuring Chris Potter on saxophone and bass clarinet, Antonio Sanchez on drums, and Ben Williams on bass—with two performances in the Northeast: at Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, tonight and at the Belleayre Music Festival on Belleayre Mountain in Highmount, New York, on Saturday.

Later this month, Metheny leads the latest edition of the four-day Pat Metheny Summer Music Workshop at the Norwich Inn in Norwich, Connecticut. Metheny's fellow Unity Band mate Antonio Sanchez joins the faculty, as does Larry Grenadier, the bassist in the Brad Mehldau Trio.

Pat Metheny's Unity Band resumes its tour of the US September 1 in Rochester, New York.

Amadou & Mariam continue their North American tour with two festival sets on the West Coast of Canada and the US. First up is a performance on the Burnaby Blues & Roots Festival’s Lake Stage Saturday evening in Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, British Columbia. The couple then heads to the States for a set at the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.

---

Björk concludes her festival headlining tour of the Nordic countries with the closing set on the Main Stage of the Flow Festival, which takes place at the historic Suvilahti former power plant in the Sörnäinen area of Helsinki, Finland, on Sunday.

---

Also performing on the Flow Festival Main Stage this weekend are The Black Keys, who precede Björk by a day, with a set on Saturday night. The band is on its own festival headlining tour of the Nordic countries as well, having performed at Way Out West Festival in Gothenburg, Sweden, last night and on to the Øya Festival at the Medieval Park in Oslo tonight.

---

Billy Bragg is on a similar Scandinavian tour trajectory, making his way from an Øya Festival set last night to play the Way Out West Festival in Gothenburg tonight, performing songs from the Mermaid Avenue albums on which he set Woody Guthrie's words to music.

---

Carolina Chocolate Drops headline a full afternoon of free music in New York City's Central Park with a Saturday set at SummerStage; also performing at SummerStage are Abigail Washburn and Buckwheat Zydeco. The Chocolate Drops continue up the East Coast to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, for a show at the Payomet Performing Arts Center in Truro on Sunday.

It was recently announced that the band would return to Ruby Diamond Concert Hall in Tallahassee, Florida, for an encore performance at the 7 Days of Opening Nights festival in February 2013. Christopher Heacox, the festival's executive director, tells the Tallahassee Democrat: “The Carolina Chocolate Drops were such a huge hit last year that audiences were clamoring for them to return, so we brought them back for a second go-round.”

---

Shawn Colvin performs tonight at the Denver Botanic Gardens in Denver, Colorado, tonight on a double bill with the inimitable Loudon Wainwright III. Colvin remains out West for a show at the Knitting Factory Concert House in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday.

---

Dr. John has taken his North American tour to the West Coast, where he performs two festival sets this weekend with his band the Lower 911 featuring Jon Cleary. First up is the Festival of the River in Arlington, Washington, tonight. He and the band then head north to Canada for the sold-out Edmonton Folk Festival in Edmonton's Gallagher Park on Sunday. That set celebrates the music of Treme and also features performances from Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Big Chief Monk, and Mardi Gras Indians along with Cyril Neville.

---

Emmylou Harris is also performing at the Edmonton Folk Festival in Gallagher Park tonight. Harris remains in Canada for another folk festival this weekend, performing in Victoria Park in Regina, Saskatchewan, for the Regina Folk Festival. She spoke with the Edmonton Journal in advance of tonight's concert for an article available at edmontonjournal.com.

---

Lianne La Havas, following a week in the States marking the US release of her debut album, Is Your Love Big Enough?, returns home to the UK to perform at the Wilderness Festival in Oxford’s Cornbury Park today. She resumes her European tour next week and return to North America in September to perform at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City on September 11 and Belmont in Montreal on the 13th.

---

k.d. lang and the Siss Boom Bang have brought their extensive North American tour to the East Coast for a two-week run, starting with two performances in New York state this weekend. First up is a performance upstate at the Chautaqua Institution tonight, followed by a show at the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center on Sunday.

---

Jessica Lea Mayfield continues her 10-day long tour with Langhorne Slim at the Casbah in San Diego, California, tonight and at the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix, Arizona, tomorrow. The Salt Lake City Weekly, previewing a recent tour stop, said of her music: "Her progressions and lyrical stylings ring sweetly true to her deeply ingrained bluegrass roots."

---

Punch Brothers conclude their brief tour of Australia with a performance at the Festival Theatre in Adelaide tonight as part of the Adelaide International Guitar Festival. The band mates, says The Age, "have embraced as their raison d'etre the idea that bluegrass is essentially about experimentation and exploring new musical possibilities."

---

Allen Toussaint visits Oakville, Ontario, to perform at the Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival tomorrow night. Toussaint takes the Towne Square Stage at 8 PM. Allen Toussaint is featured on this week's edition of Music Inside Out from New Orleans NPR member station; listen to the show at wwno.org.

---
