Pat Metheny, fresh off his US tour with bassist Larry Grenadier, launches a 30-city European tour this weekend with Grenadier and fellow Pat Metheny Trio member Bill Stewart, on drums. This is the first time in nearly a dozen years that the Trio behind the albums Pat Metheny Trio 99>00 and Trio Live will have toured Europe. MPR, reviewing Metheny's new solo album, What's It All About, says: "Metheny has redefined how jazz is played on the guitar." The forthcoming reissue of his 1999 duo album with Jim Hall, announced in yesterday's Nonesuch Journal, is available to pre-order.

Pat Metheny, fresh off a month-long tour of the United States with bassist Larry Grenadier, launches a 30-city European tour this weekend with Grenadier and fellow Pat Metheny Trio member Bill Stewart, on drums. This is the first time in nearly a dozen years that the Trio behind the albums Pat Metheny Trio 99>00 and Trio Live will have toured Europe. The six-week tour begins this Saturday at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, Bulgaria, and will include stops in Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Hungary, Germany, France, Switzerland, Poland, Croatia, Italy, Spain, Israel, Turkey, and Greece. See below for all of the currently schedule tour dates. For more information and ticket links, go to nonesuch.com/on-tour.

Songs from Metheny's latest Nonesuch release, What's It All About—which features Metheny's solo acoustic take on classic tunes from songwriters like Paul Simon, Lennon & McCartney, Burt Bacharach, and Henry Mancini—were included in the recent US duo tour with Grenadier, along with new material and favorites from throughout Metheny's catalog.

"For more than four decades, the guitarist Pat Metheny has left an indelible mark on the jazz world, with a string of contemporary jazz and other albums that defied conventional boundaries," says Minnesota Public Radio's David Cazares in a new review of What's It All About. "Much like his greatest influence, the truly legendary jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery, Metheny has redefined how jazz is played on the guitar."

Cazares goes on to say of the new album: "Though all of the songs are recognizable tunes, Metheny delivers them in his voice. His playing is inescapable and distinctive: a bright and clear sound that reflects his roots in Missouri, his grounding in the work of the masters that came before him and his modern vision."

Jim Hall & Pat Metheny features 17 tracks: original tunes from each guitarist, several improvisations captured in the studio, plus six tunes recorded live in concert, including Gershwin's "Summertime." The Los Angeles Times call is "extraordinary."

To pre-order Jim Hall & Pat Metheny and pick up a copy of What's It All About, head to the Nonesuch Store, where orders include high-quality, 320 kbps MP3s of the album.
