Punch Brothers will make their Austin City Limits (ACL) debut when the PBS television series returns for its 38th season this fall. The broadcast of the band's performance, which was recorded at The Moody Theater in downtown Austin this past May, will premiere on PBS stations across the US on Saturday, November 3, 2012; also on the episode will be a set from The Civil Wars. Though Punch Brothers' Chris Thile has appeared on Austin City Limits three times—twice with his former band Nickel Creek and once in Dolly Parton’s backup band—this will be Punch Brothers' first time on the show. (The band will perform live at the 2012 ACL Music Festival in Austin's Zilker Park on October 13 and the night before at La Zona Rosa for an official ACL Late Night Show with Trampled by Turtles.) Preview the band's ACL set with a performance of "Movement and Location," off their latest Nonesuch release, Who's Feeling Young Now?, below.

On November 10, Austin City Limits will present a full hour of highlights from the Americana Honors & Awards Show, in which both Punch Brothers and Nonesuch label mates Carolina Chocolate Drops are nominated for Duo/Group of the Year; Chris Thile is nominated for Instrumentalist of the Year. The Awards show, which will take place September 12 at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, kicks off the four-day Americana Music Festival. Punch Brothers perform an official Festival showcase at Cannery Ballroom on September 14, as does Sara Watkins.

The 38th season of the Austin City Limits TV show begins on Saturday, October 6, with an hour of music from Radiohead. Also performing this fall are Bon Iver, Bonnie Raitt with Mavis Staples, The Shins, and Dr. Dog.

“We’re proud to continue the tradition of presenting a diverse, eclectic mix of some of the most original music being made today,” says ACL Executive Producer Terry Lickona. “One thing that hasn’t changed in the last 38 years is that ACL has a way of bringing out the best in an artist’s performance—whether it’s a rising new star or a legend. This year is no exception.”

It's another beautiful journey." Segarra made their debut on the show this weekend, accompanied by Johnny Wilson to perform songs from the new album The Past Is Still Alive and more, including a finale of "Midnight Special," with fellow guest Peter One.
