The Low Anthem will be the guests on WNYC's Soundcheck today, performing songs from their forthcoming album, Smart Flesh. The band is in New York to play a sold-out concert for Lincoln Center's American Songbook series, then heads West to perform at the Sundance Film Festival and to Los Angeles for a show with Iron & Wine. Following an intimate set for a home-state crowd this past weekend, the Visible Voice blog says Ben Knox Miller "is leading the pack in a new generation of songwriters."

The Low Anthem will be the guests on today's episode of Soundcheck on New York public radio station WNYC. The band will perform what the show calls its "modern take on American roots music" live in studio, previewing songs from their forthcoming Nonesuch release, Smart Flesh, due out February 22 and available for pre-order now in the Nonesuch Store. Tune in to 93.9 FM in New York or listen online at wnyc.org today starting at 2 PM EST and again at 10 PM EST.

The band is set to launch a tour of North America in support of Smart Flesh at the end of February. Before then, the band has a few special shows of note in the coming weeks, starting with a sold-out performance at The Allen Room in New York City this Thursday as a part of Lincoln Center's American Songbook series. Later this month, the band will head out West to play two showcases curated by ASCAP, the performance-rights organization, at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, followed by a show with Iron & Wine at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. For more information on these and the rest of the band's upcoming shows, visit nonesuch.com/on-tour.

The Low Anthem gave an intimate preview of their upcoming tour and the new album for home-state fans in Peace Dale, Rhode Island, this past weekend. Indie music blog Visible Voice was there and offers this assessment:

It's clear that the band is gaining confidence as performers and reaching maturity as songwriters. Ben Knox Miller has an incredible gift. He writes songs that can make you smile and cry in the same moment; songs that are deeply personal yet universal. In my eyes he is leading the pack in a new generation of songwriters. The Low Anthem were already my favorite band, and they're only getting better. Based solely on this sneak peek, Smart Flesh is going to be hard to top as my album of 2011.
