This Saturday, Jackson will be featured on CMT's Insider. The show airs on Saturday at 1:30 PM ET/PT, with an encore presentation on Sunday at 11 AM. For details, visit cmt.com.

Coincidentally, today is International Women's Day, an occasion that Prefix magazine has marked with a list that "celebrates some of our personal favorite frontwomen, singers, songwriters, and icons." Writes Prefix's Hilary Beck: "In an industry all too keen on reducing its girls to over-sexed mouthpieces, these female artists, creators, and pioneers left an indelible, fiercely independent mark." Coming in at No. 1 on the list: Wanda Jackson.

"Before a decades-long string of sweet-voiced folk chanteuses, before the riot grrrls, before chart-topping pop stars, there was Wanda Jackson, firmly planting herself next to her male contemporaries and showing them she could do anything they did," writes Prefix's Susannah Young. "She began her career during the mid-1950s when options for women in the music industry were limited, but turned this handicap into an opportunity, eschewing the plaintive sweetness and sexless lyrics of her female contemporaries in favor of her own gutsy style."

Fittingly, Jackson is part of a new exhibit at the Hall of Fame titled Women Who Rock: Vision, Passion, Power, which opens May 13. The exhibit will document the important roles women have played in rock and roll, highlighting, says the Hall, "the flashpoints, the firsts, the best, the celebrated—and sometimes lesser-known women—who moved rock and roll music and the American culture forward."
