As part of the year-long celebration of Nonesuch Records' 60th anniversary, we launched Nonesuch Selects, a video series in which artists stop by the Nonesuch office, pick some of their favorites from the music library, and share a few words on their choices. Following the first six videos, by Mary Halvorson, Timo Andres, Vagabon, Tigran HamasyanSam Amidon, and The Staves (all of which you can watch here), Brad Mehldau—whose two new albums, After Bach II and Après Fauré, were released this past Friday—stopped by and chose recordings by Richard Goode, Dawn Upshaw, Adam Guettel, Kronos Quartet, and Darcy James Argue's Secret Society. You can watch it below and subscribe to the Nonesuch Records YouTube channel for all the latest:

Brad Mehldau’s After Bach II comprises four preludes and one fugue from the Well-Tempered Clavier, as well as the Allemande from the fourth Partita, interspersed with seven compositions or improvisations by Mehldau inspired by the complementary works of Bach—including Mehldau’s Variations on Bach’s Goldberg Theme. On Après Fauré, Mehldau performs four nocturnes, from a thirty-seven-year span of Gabriel Fauré’s career, as well as a reduction of an excerpt from the Adagio movement of his Piano Quartet in G Minor. Here Mehldau’s four compositions that Fauré inspired are presented in a group, bookended by two sections featuring the French composer’s works.

You can hear a playlist of music from Brad Mehldau's Nonesuch Selects on Spotify and Apple Music here. You can watch all of the Nonesuch Selects videos here.

Brad Mehldau has shared new videos filmed at the Village Vanguard in New York City in which he discusses and performs from his latest albums, After Bach II and Après Fauré, which were released on Nonesuch this past May. On the former, he performs some improvised variations on Bach's Goldberg theme, as he does on After Bach II, and on the latter, he discusses the impact of Fauré's final nocturne, no. 13, and performs his own piece Après Fauré No. 4: Vision. You can watch both here.
