Fatoumata Diawara, whose debut album, Fatou, was released in North America late last month, has now released a music video for the album track "Bakonoba." The video was directed by Sam Birt and produced and edited by OLO Creative Farm. Watch it here. Diawara, who was raised in Mali and now lives in Paris, recently completed a five-day tour with Africa Express and will launch a tour of the US on September 20.

Fatoumata Diawara's debut album, Fatou, was released in North America on World Circuit / Nonesuch Records late last month. Now comes the release of a new music video featuring the album track "Bakonoba." The video was directed by Sam Birt and produced and edited by OLO Creative Farm. Watch it below.

Diawara, who was raised in Mali and now lives in Paris, recently completed a five-day tour with Africa Express, which also featured Toumani Diabaté and Tony Allen, who both make guest appearances on Fatou, Amadou & Mariam, Bassekou Koyate (of AfroCubism fame), Damon Albarn, and more, including a special surprise turn from Sir Paul McCartney at the tour's closing night in London last Saturday.

Diawara will launch a tour of the US at the Cityfolk festival in Dayton, Ohio, next Thursday, September 20, and make stops in New York City, Chicago, Washington, DC, Indiana, New Hampshire, and North Carolina. For details and ticket links, go to nonesuch.com/on-tour.

    The Library of Congress has acquired the collection of manuscripts, instruments, costumes, video and audio recordings, and more from Kronos Quartet and its non-profit organization, Kronos Performing Arts Association. “It’s gratifying to know that Kronos’ legacy will be preserved in perpetuity alongside the manuscripts and other treasures of so many other influential musicians from the US and around the world," said KPAA Executive Director Janet Cowperthwaite. "We are perhaps even more excited to reflect upon all the musicians and scholars who will have access to these materials in years to come, informing their own work and carrying Kronos’ inspiration and influence into the future.” The Library also appointed Kronos founder, artistic director, and violinist David Harrington as the Kluge Chair in Modern Culture and inducted Kronos’ 1992 album Pieces of Africa into the National Recording Registry.

    Vagabon (aka Laetitia Tamko) will support the band Crumb on tour this October. The shows begin in California—Santa Cruz, Oakland, and Sacramento—then head to Salt Lake City and Denver and on to Texas—Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and El Paso—and Albuquerque and back to California to close out the tour in Santa Ana, San Diego, and Los Angeles.
