Senegalese singer-songwriter-activist Youssou N'Dour, who released five albums on Nonesuch Records over the span of a decade, announced on Monday that he will run for President of Senegal in the country's election next month. "For a long time, men and women have demonstrated their optimism, dreaming of a new Senegal," N'Dour said. "They have, in various ways, called for my candidacy in the February presidential race. Senegalese singer-songwriter-activist Youssou N'Dour, who released five albums on Nonesuch Records over the span of a decade, announced on Monday that he will run for President of Senegal in the country's election next month. N'Dour has long been an outspoken advocate for a number of human rights, public health, and anti-poverty causes in Senegal and abroad; this is his first personal foray into electoral politics.

"For a long time, men and women have demonstrated their optimism, dreaming of a new Senegal," N'Dour said when announcing his candidacy on Monday. "They have, in various ways, called for my candidacy in the February presidential race. I listened. I heard, and I am responding positively to your request." Youssou N'Dour, whom NPR included among the world's 50 great voices last year, released his first record on Nonesuch, Joko (The Link), in 2000, followed by Nothing's in Vain (Coono du réér) in 2002. In 2004, he released Egypt, an exploration of his Islamic faith that would go on to win the Grammy Award for
Best Contemporary World Music and became the subject for the documentary film I Bring What I Love; Nonesuch released the film's soundtrack in 2010.     The Library of Congress has acquired the collection of manuscripts, instruments, costumes, video and audio recordings, and more from Kronos Quartet and its non-profit organization, Kronos Performing Arts Association. “It’s gratifying to know that Kronos’ legacy will be preserved in perpetuity alongside the manuscripts and other treasures of so many other influential musicians from the US and around the world," said KPAA Executive Director Janet Cowperthwaite. "We are perhaps even more excited to reflect upon all the musicians and scholars who will have access to these materials in years to come, informing their own work and carrying Kronos’ inspiration and influence into the future.” The Library also appointed Kronos founder, artistic director, and violinist David Harrington as the Kluge Chair in Modern Culture and inducted Kronos’ 1992 album Pieces of Africa into the National Recording Registry.

    Vagabon (aka Laetitia Tamko) will support the band Crumb on tour this October. The shows begin in California—Santa Cruz, Oakland, and Sacramento—then head to Salt Lake City and Denver and on to Texas—Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and El Paso—and Albuquerque and back to California to close out the tour in Santa Ana, San Diego, and Los Angeles.
