Bolivian-born singer and multimedia performer Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti and Chicago expat jazz drummer Frank Rosaly and their debut full-length album as co-composers, arrangers, and musicians, MESTIZX, are the subject of a new documentary from International Anthem, with whom Nonesuch released the album, edited by David Burkart. Over twenty-two minutes and twenty-seconds, the short film follows the Amsterdam-based duo down their personal, creative paths to crafting the album.

Brad Mehldau has shared new videos filmed at the Village Vanguard in New York City in which he discusses and performs from his latest albums, After Bach II and Après Fauré, which were released on Nonesuch this past May. On the former, he performs some improvised variations on Bach's Goldberg theme, as he does on After Bach II, and on the latter, he discusses the impact of Fauré's final nocturne, no. 13, and performs his own piece Après Fauré No. 4: Vision. "If you know anything about me, accolades and awards and record sales never mattered to me. I will say that this one is pretty meaningful," k.d. lang said following her induction into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame and her first performance with her band the Reclines in 35 years, at the CCMA Awards in Edmonton on Saturday. "It's all very much rich with sentiment. I‘m filled with absolute joy." She spoke about the honor and her career on CBC News, which says: "Whether it was an original song or a spin on a classic, k.d. lang always brought originality to her music and her life." The Staves have shared a new song, "A Weird One." This follows last month's release of the song "Waiting for the Joy" and the announcement of a US acoustic tour for this fall, celebrating their spring 2024 album, All Now. "A rolling list of thoughts on one particular day; from the mundane to the existential," the Staves' Jessica and Camilla Staveley say of the new song. "A to-do list but with the underlying hum of grief and anxiety towards what the year ahead might bring." The band recorded the track during the All Now sessions with producer John Congleton.

Rhiannon Giddens joins forces with singer-songwriter Crys Matthews and the Resistance Revival Chorus for a reimagining of folk icon Peggy Seeger’s “How I Long for Peace,” released today, timed to Tuesday's National Voter Registration Day, in partnership with Joy To The Polls and HeadCount. "Thank you, Rhiannon, as always—now it’s on its way!” "I have been a longtime Peggy Seeger fan," Giddens says, "and think she has written an incredible song that says some hard but crucial things and most importantly allows space for us all to wish for a better world.”

DAVÓNE TINES & THE TRUTH’s new work ROBESON, which premiered this summer at NYC’s Little Island, is out now. In ROBESON, Tines’ solo recording debut, the musician grapples with the legacy of a hero. Exploding the musical repertoire of Paul Robeson, Tines and his band the Truth—pianist John Bitoy and sound artist Khari Lucas—take listeners on a trip from the stage of Carnegie Hall to the floor of a Moscow hotel room in an attempt to understand an icon not through aspiring to his monumentality, but through connecting to his vulnerability. Davóne Tines & The Truth will perform from ROBESON in LA, Chicago, Brussels, and London in the weeks and months ahead.

"Airplanes, and flying, is a recurring imagery in Laurie Anderson's music ever since her unexpected crossover hit 'O Superman' back in 1981," John Schaefer, host of WNYC's New Sounds, says of his guest. "She often takes a quizzical look at technology and flight has been no exception." Anderson was on the show to talk with Schaefer about her new album, Amelia, which tells the story of Amelia Earhart's last flight. "My participation in country music was short lived, but it was the launchpad for my career," k.d. lang tells Talia Schlanger, guest host of CBC's Q, ahead of her reuniting with her band The Reclines for the first time in 35 years to perform on the Canadian Country Music Awards and her being inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame this weekend. "Sarah Kirkland Snider is, quite simply, one of my favorite living composers," Stephen Rodgers, host of Resounding Verse, says on the latest episode of the podcast about poetry and song. "I love her vocal works. She has a great sense for the human voice, she sets text beautifully." Chris Thile and Hurray for the Riff Raff each performed on the Aspen Ideas Festival campus for NPR's Field Recordings series of shows filmed "off the beaten path." Thile was in Anderson Park to perform Bach with students from the Aspen Music School and two solo pieces from his album Laysongs. Hurray for the Riff Raff was joined by guitarist Johnny Wilson in a meadow beneath the Elk Mountains to perform five songs from the new album The Past Is Still Alive—"one of our favorites of the year," says NPR's Suraya Mohamed. Composer and guitarist Yasmin Williams has released “Hummingbird,” a track from her new album, Acadia, due October 4. “Hummingbird” features Allison de Groot on banjo and Tatiana Hargreaves on fiddle, a duo whose instrumentals “mesmerize in the most splendid manner,” per No Depression; you can watch a music video for the song here. Williams brings her new music to the Kennedy Center in DC and the Evanston Folk Festival in Illinois this weekend; she embarks on a fall North American tour with Brittany Howard and Michael Kiwanuka later this month and plays London’s Pitchfork Music Festival in November.
