Makaya McCraven has released “Dream Another,” the second track from his forthcoming album, In These Times, out September 23. The track, which McCraven wrote and recorded in his home studio in Chicago, features Brandee Younger on harp, Junius Paul on bass, Matt Gold on guitar/sitar, and De’Sean Jones on flute. An accompanying music visualizer, directed by Nik Arthur, features hand-drawn, digital, and photographic animations composed and laser-etched into stone in the style of a “zoopraxiscope,” a nineteenth-century animation device, predating the motion picture, that allowed images to move for the first time. Evergreen, performed by Caroline Shaw and Attacca Quartet, is due September 23 on Nonesuch Records. The album is five original works by Shaw: three pieces for string quartet—Three Essays, Blueprint, and The Evergreen, which Shaw describes as an offering to a tree she encountered in an evergreen forest on an island off Vancouver—and two songs for string quartet and voice, including Other Song, which she also performed on her 2021 album Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part. Also included is an interpretation of a 12th-century French poem for quartet and voice. Nonesuch Store pre-orders include a limited-edition, 8”x8” autographed print of the score for The Evergreen.

Grammy Award–winning and multi-Platinum selling singer-songwriter Michelle Branch’s new album, The Trouble with Fever, is due September 16. Created during the pandemic lockdown, The Trouble with Fever is Branch's fourth solo album and follows her critically acclaimed 2017 album, Hopeless Romantic. The time at home gave Branch the opportunity to stretch herself creatively. She kicks off her tour in Nashville September 12, with dates in New York and Los Angeles, among others.

The members of the legendary original 1990s Joshua Redman Quartet—Redman, Brad Mehldau, Christian McBride, and Brian Blade—who reunited after twenty-six years for the 2020 album RoundAgain, return now with LongGone, an album of six original songs written by Redman, due September 9. The first of those tunes, “Disco Ears,” is out today along with a live performance video that can be seen here.

The forty-disc John Adams Collected Works, a box set of recordings spanning more than four decades of the composer’s career with the label, is out now on Nonesuch. It includes two extensive booklets with new essays and notes by Timo Andres, Julia Bullock, Robert Hurwitz, Nico Muhly, and Jake Wilder-Smith. You can take a look inside in an unboxing video here. Since 1985, when Adams signed exclusively to Nonesuch, the label has released forty-two first recordings and thirty-one all-Adams albums. Collected Works includes thirty-five discs of Nonesuch recordings and five from other labels.

Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Molly Tuttle and two of her Golden Highway band mates, fiddler Bronwyn Keith-Hynes and banjo player Kyle Tuttle, perform "Flatland Girl" from their new album, Crooked Tree, live from Carter Vintage Guitars in Nashville. Molly Tuttle was on PBS NewsHour to discuss her Nonesuch debut album, Crooked Tree, with her band Golden Highway, and how she got to where she is today. "Few women get named to those greatest all-time guitar-player lists that come out now and then," says host Judy Woodruff. "But as special correspondent Tom Casciato reports, there is one playing bluegrass who appears to be on her way." Casciato confirms: "Molly Tuttle is at the top of her profession." To mark the longest day of the year, the summer solstice, Hurray for the Riff Raff (aka Alynda Segarra) releases a video for the title track to their critically acclaimed Nonesuch debut, LIFE ON EARTH. The video is directed and edited by Segarra, who also publishes the accompanying poem, "i always thought time was a circle turns out i was wrong." You can watch the video and read the poem here.

In celebration of Father’s Day, Molly Tuttle recorded a new performance video of her song, “Grass Valley,” featuring her father, Jack Tuttle, a music teacher and multi-instrumentalist, on mandolin and vocals. The song, from Tuttle's new album, Crooked Tree, recorded with her band Golden Highway, tells the story of going to Grass Valley, California’s annual Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival with her dad, where she was first exposed to the bluegrass music that inspired her to play. Molly Tuttle and Golden Highway performed three songs from their new album, Crooked Tree, in a live Paste Studio on the Road session from DelFest in Cumberland, MD. They were joined by special guest Jerry Douglas, who co-produced the album with Tuttle, to perform “Over the Line,” “Dooley’s Farm,” and “Crooked Tree” and talk about the making of the album. Rhiannon Giddens performed in the National Memorial Day Concert on the National Mall in Washington, DC, last night. Punch Brothers were on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night to perform Jimmie Rodgers’ “Any Old Time,” from their new album, Hell on Church Street, a reimagining of, and homage to, the late bluegrass great Tony Rice’s landmark solo album Church Street Blues. Punch Brothers perform at Telluride Bluegrass Festival, ROMP Fest, Ottawa Jazz Festival, and Blue Ox Music Festival in June and are then joined by Watchhouse and Sarah Jarosz for the American Acoustic tour across the US.
