Earlier this year, "Charlie Darwin," the opening track to The Low Anthem's Nonesuch debut, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin, was named one of the best songs of the year by NPR. Now, the band's moving music and lyrics have been set to beautiful images in a new video by Glenn Taunton and Simon Taffe, which premieres today on Stereogum. "The solemn, solitary pathos in Glenn Taunton's animated video for Low Anthem's 'Charlie Darwin' adds another layer of melancholia to the track," says Stereogum, "offering an affecting visual counterpart to Ben Knox Miller's fragile falsetto."

Wilco's TransCanada tour doesn't take place till February 2010, but Toronto fans get a preview with two sold-out sets at Massey Hall tonight and Thursday, which John Stirratt previews in Canada's National Post. In A.V. Club Chicago, Jeff Tweedy responds to anonymous comments, both good and bad, left on sites around the web, ranging from his own hair care to fan expectations.

Allen Toussaint recently rounded out some concert dates in Europe with a set at the Jazz Cafe in London this past Sunday. He and his recent Nonesuch debut album, The Bright Mississippi, are the focus of an encore broadcast of Words & Music from Studio-A, from New York NPR member station WFUV. "There is no separating Allen Toussaint from New Orleans or the Crescent City from his music," says WFUV's Claudia Marshall her introduction to the episode, "and on his latest album, Allen looks even further into his hometown history, paying tribute to the forefathers of jazz."

Wilco was joined by Feist to sing "You and I" at Monday night's concert at KeySpan Park in Brooklyn and on Tuesday night's performance for the Late Show with David Letterman. Stereogum posts video of the latter and reports: "Jeff [Tweedy] and Feist enjoy a laid back but engaged rapport onstage that matches the dulcet mesh of their voices, one of those rare collaborative dynamics that enhances the song's meaning as much as it raises the song's profile." Billboard says of Monday's concert: "The sight was American rock 'n' roll at its finest, with one of the genre's most powerful live acts at the helm." WFUV's Rita Houston says: "Great show in a great setting on a beautiful night in Coney Island. Magic was all there."

Disfarmer, Bill Frisell's latest Nonesuch release, is due out a week from today you can now listen to the complete album online for NPR's Exclusive First Listen. NPR describes Frisell as "a guitar tactician with warmth and a composer of unclassifiable songs," and, on this album (inspired by the work of the late photographer Michael Disfarmer), "the quiet tactician of the electric guitar, who engineers loops and subtle distortions with phrasing you never knew you were expecting." NPR concludes: "It's a record alternately spare and full, languid and rollicking, pastoral and urbanely produced."

Voltaic, the multimedia celebration of Björk's Volta tour, is now available in the US from Nonesuch Records. Yesterday's release day was marked by a guest DJ appearance from the Icelandic songstress on NPR's All Songs Considered. Björk speaks with the show's host, Bob Boilen, about some of her favorite artists, chooses a song from each, featuring music from Syria, Russia, the UK, and Icleand, and explains what she finds appealing in each. Wilco (the album), is due out on Nonesuch this Tuesday, June 30, but NPR is giving fans a preview by streaming the album in its entirety now for an Exclusive First Listen, stating: "[T]he new Wilco record is all about a great band playing great original music on an album filled with great songs." The Independent gives a perfect five stars to the "magnificent" album, which finds Wilco "at the peak of its powers." BBC says the band's latest features "some of their most charming pop rock ensemble playing" and asks, "Best live band? How about plain old best band in the world right now?" The Evening Standard gives the album four stars, with its "carefully crafted, deceptively gentle songs, whose beauty reveals itself by stealth."

Any way it's told, the story of Nonesuch Records, through its now 45-year history, is and has always been about the music. FLYP, a new online multimedia magazine, has dedicated its latest issue in its entirety to telling that story, through 50-plus pages, more than a dozen articles, and scores of images, video interviews and performances, streaming audio, personal journal excerpts, an interactive name-that-tune, and a jukebox of songs to select and play from the Nonesuch catalog.

Shawn Colvin's new Live album is out on Nonesuch today. And in celebration of its release, AOL Music is streaming the album in its entirety for the New Music Releases Full CD Listening Party. The album includes 15 songs from throughout Colvin's career, including 12 written or co-written by her, as well as covers of songs by Robbie Robertson, Gnarls Barkley, and Talking Heads. All orders placed in the Nonesuch Store through July 21 include the exclusive bonus download "Another Long One" and are registered to win a signed Martin guitar.

Björk's Voltaic release, documenting in music and video her two-year Volta tour, is due out on Nonesuch next week. Now, and all week leading up to the event, NPR.org is offering an Exclusive First Listen to the entire Voltaic album of songs recorded live in studio at the tour's start. "Björk's music is complex, mysterious and full of unpredictable sonic textures," says NPR's Bob Boilen. "The brilliant performances on Voltaic make it clear that Björk isn't just a visionary, but also an artist who inspires those around her to create equal parts music and magic, in an effort to bring her vision to life."

The Low Anthem and its recently released Nonesuch debut, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin, are the subject of the latest Daytrotter Session, where you can hear four new live recordings by the band. Daytrotter takes a look at the "riveting" and "magnificent album," in particular its focus on the concept of survival of the fittest made famous by Charles Darwin, and the chaos inherent to it. It's a notion the band sets up right from the "lush, harmonious burst" of the album opener, "Charlie Darwin." This "powerful and moving opening song," the site asserts, "takes us through so much." There's also video of the band performing three songs at Baeble Music.
