Yola gives a free concert, on a double bill with Patty Griffin, at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park in New York City on Saturday, as part of the Lincoln Center Out of Doors concert series. The New Yorker preview of the event calls her "a riveting country soul artist." She then heads to Kentucky for a set at The Grounds at Keeneland in Lexington on Sunday, as part of Railbird festival, and performs at Lightin 100’s Live on the Green in Nashville on Thursday.

Yola was declared the Voice of this year's Newport Folk Festival by Rolling Stone. Her Dan Auerbach–produced debut album, Walk Through Fire, has been named one of The Best Albums of 2019 (So Far) by NPR Music, which says it’s an “exhilarating” album that “encapsulates country-soul lustiness, plushly orchestrated pop transcendence and a range of expression both subtle and striking.”

---

Composer John Adams’s Saxophone Concerto is performed by the Peninsula Music Festival symphony, featuring guest conductor Roderick Cox and saxophonist Timothy McAllister, at Door County Auditorium in Fish Creek, Wisconsin, on Saturday, for Peninsula Music Festival.

Nonesuch released the first recording of Saxophone Concerto, featuring McAllister, for whom the piece was written, in 2014. NPR called it “a gleaming vehicle for virtuoso saxophonist Timothy McAllister … He nails the fluent angularity and punchiness in the music with a lyrical touch somewhere comfortably between jazz and classical styles.” The New York Times called it “an incisive performance ... McAllister sizzles.”

---

Sam Amidon tours the Northeast US this weekend, with shows at The Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, tonight; Colony in Woodstock, New York, on Saturday; and The Stone Church in his hometown of Brattleboro, Vermont, on Sunday. Amidon’s latest album, The Following Mountain, released in 2017 on Nonesuch Records was called “breathtaking” by the Irish Times, “a fascinating signpost to the future.”

---

Laurie Anderson presents Lou Reed Drones—a sound installation using guitars from her late husband Lou Reed's collection and curated by Reed’s former guitar technician, Stewart Hurwood—to MASS MoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts, on Saturday.

---

Composer/pianist Timo Andres joins a small orchestra in performing works by Chris Cerrone and David Lang at The JAI at The Conrad in La Jolla, California, on Sunday, as part of La Jolla SummerFest. The program also includes Caroline Shaw’s “Entr’acte,” from her album Orange, which was released earlier this year on New Amsterdam and Nonesuch Records, and named one of The Best Albums of 2019 (So Far) by NPR Music.

---

Daughter of Swords, aka Mountain Man's Alexandra Sauser-Monnig, performs as special guest of The Mountain Goats at College Street Music Hall in New Haven, Connecticut, tonight, and The Center for Arts in Natick, Massachusetts, on Saturday, as special guest of Lisa Loeb.

Daughter of Swords has a headline show at Brooklyn’s Union Pool on Tuesday. Her debut album, Dawnbreaker, recently released on Nonesuch, “reveals her effortless skill as a songwriter as she delivers an homage to the betwixt and between of a relationship in its twilight,” says Pitchfork.

---

Robert Finley, fresh off his performance on America's Got Talent, is being fêted by his hometown of Winnsboro, Louisiana, with Robert Finley Fun Day this Saturday. Finley performs from his Easy Eye Sound album Goin' Platinum! with The Platinum Band and will be signing autographs and taking photos at the Jack Hammons Community Center. He returns to the AGT stage for a live performance later this month.

---

Kronos Quartet plays music by Charles Mingus, George Gershwin, John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, Geeshie Wiley, Blind Willie Johnson, and more at Yoshi’s in Oakland, California, on Sunday.

The quartet’s groundbreaking collaboration with composer Terry Riley, Sun Rings, will be available as a complete recording for the first time on August 30. It may be pre-ordered now with an instant download of the album track “Beebopterismo,” a video for which can be seen here.

---

Lake Street Dive tours the Pacific Northwest as special guest of The Avett Brothers this weekend, with shows at Gorge Amphitheatre in Quincy, Washington, on Saturday and L.B. Amphitheater in Salem, Oregon, on Sunday.

Nonesuch Records releases Rachael & Vilray—the debut album by Lake Street Dive singer-songwriter Rachael Price and composer, singer, and guitarist Vilray—on October 4. Nonesuch Store pre-orders include an immediate download of the album track “Alone at Last,” as well as an exclusive, limited-edition print autographed by Rachael and Vilray.

---

Natalie Merchant concludes her A Summer Evening With… tour of intimate venues across the US Northeast with a sold-out concert at Hudson Hall in Hudson, New York, tonight.

Merchant, who performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night, will receive the 2019 John Lennon Real Love Award and lead a tribute concert of her favorite John Lennon and Beatles tunes at Symphony Space in New York City in December.
